That stinks. I hope you didn’t put in a ton of effort on your last day, it doesn’t sound like they deserved it.
We took an extra long break...like 45 minutes instead of 15. There was no one there from the company to see it, and what were they going to do, fire us? So we all just sat around talking about former managers that were awful. And all we were doing was folding clothes anyway...not a whole lot of effort goes into that. So it was pretty relaxed. I don't think any of us were particularly motivated. Demi said she's going to turn in her resignation on Monday, and I don't know if they'll do the same to her that they did to me and just take away the last shifts she was scheduled for or hold her to the 2 month resignation period, but there are only 2 weeks left of night shifts. She's going to go travel Europe for a while instead of looking for a new job or going to college. She's only 19 though, so she's got a whole lifetime of work ahead of her...she should totally enjoy life right now. Fleur is almost done with college, and she has a paid internship during the day along with her classes, so she's not going to look for anything new. Liza is upset that she only has 2 weeks to find something else in the evening, and there aren't many jobs that have evening hours, but she's a student and has classes and student teaching, so she can't work during the day. Kevin is in his last year of high school....he can't work during the day. So now HE has to find something else. But he's only 17 or 18, so he's cheaper to hire...I don't think he'll have a problem getting hired IF he can find something in the evening. Lyanca already had another job lined up, so she's good. Gaby is over 50, so she's kind of close to retirement age and will have a hard time, but she also has a day job, so she wasn't sure she wanted to look for something new. Mariska already had her meeting with the bosses to discuss her options for work hours and they told her she needs to work every Sunday the whole day and then every Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, and she says no, she can't do that....she has kids! So she doesn't know what she's going to do yet. And there were a few people from the normal nightshift who weren't there last night. Anna went to days because she decided to stop being a keyuser (keyusers are kind of like department managers...they have access to computer programs the rest of us don't) and Marco was already looking for other stuff. Marissa will be easy to hire, because she has a forklift license, and I saw several positions in my search that said having that is a huge advantage and you'd be given priority. And Nanda was still in talks with the higher-ups because she also has kids and can't work all the daytime hours they want her to work. But they were really sneaky. They made us all sign new contracts in January under the new company name, basically making it sound like it was the same contract, but now for the company that took over instead of the company we all actually work for...that company exists only in name now. So they told us we had to sign the new contract with the new company. But they hid things in the contract...I remember reading it and thinking it was weird, but if we didn't sign, we didn't have a job. But they basically said that if they decided to change work hours, we agreed to it, and if they moved premesis, we agreed to that, too. I'm pretty sure they are trying to get rid of as many people as possible because they want to move the whole thing to their base in Zwolle....across the country. They know that no one will be able to just uproot their whole families to go there, but if they break the contracts, they have to pay severance. So they put it in the contract that we agree to move with the company....then if we can't go with them, it's our CHOICE to stop working there, and they don't have to compensate. It's super shady. I wish I had given the contract to a lawyer and had them look at it, because I don't think it was exactly legal.

That is a shame, but not really unusual. I retired from the last company I worked for starting out as a bus driver but quickly into middle management. When I retired I cleaned up all the stuff from my main office location (my time was split between two main area offices) and not a soul was even there. I found out the next week that they had all been called into the General Managers office and my whole operations department had been fired, including my boss of 10 years. It's almost like they had decided that they wanted to change and just waited until I retired (why I don't know) but they completely cleaned house. At least I can say that I was never fired in my entire career or even laid off. I have restless brain syndrome and never could stay in one place very long before I got bored with the whole thing and moved on. My sister just recently retired from the place that she worked for a little over 50 years. She apparently didn't get that gene.
It just seems wrong....ungrateful, I guess. The company started in a woman's attic with just her and one employee and we've had to move to bigger warehouses twice, there are over 300 employees now, and it's a multi-million dollar business. I was one of the first employees with the big hire...we all have an employee number based on the order in which we were hired. They are in the thousands now and I was like 126. The work I've put into that company for YEARS, training new people, and it's because of US that it has gotten such a good reputation and that it's made millions, and they don't even come and say good luck? Talk about corporate greed and arrogance. Oh well. As @MinnieM123 said, good riddance. I hope they totally bomb. The company that took us over hadn't made a profit in several years up until Corona when everyone was forced to buy online because physical stores were closed. That's the only reason they made a profit, and it wasn't even a large profit. I think it was only like 1 or 2 million, and there company was several times larger than ours, and our profit was something like 15 mil. That's the only reason they wanted to acquire our business...it was hugely profitable. But they are running it into the ground already and it's only been a year and a half.

Good luck and if approved look for some deals on winter weather clothing and an engine block heater so your vehicle can start in below 0 degrees weather. I knew someone from Jamaica whose family moved to Canada and their first winter was a challenging one.
Vancouver for some strange reason has a much warmer climate. I'm not sure they even get snow and if they do, it is quite seldom. So it is part of Canada but its relations to the Pacific Ocean makes it so it isn't the great white north. The climate is quite livable. He probably will need a coat a little heavier then anything he ever needed in Mexico, but Vancouver is a perfect transition. It is, however, on the edge of the Pacific Rim but, so is Mexico.

Been to Vancouver in the summer, great city for ethnic food especially Asian and Arabic cuisine especially food from Iran . I was amazed the sun set at 1145pm and the sun rose again at 130am one day. A number of wealthy families from Asia send their kids to live and study in Vancouver and buy up real estate. If you are a young driver your license plate starts with a particular sequence and a number of new Ferraris and Aston Martins were driven by young college kids from Asia.

Thank you!
And Indeed!
Hopefully I will have a chance to get there to buy supplies for winter before it starts.
