Yep, I have had herniated L4-L5 and L5-S1 since 2005.Neuropathy is just the name of how your feet are reacting to your lower back problems. The pesky L3, L4, L5 and L6 vertebrae are all connected to legs and feet along with the pain. Pinched nerves do some weird things. Not scheduled yet, but I am supposed to have fusion done for L4 and L5 this spring. In the meantime I have Neuropathy in my feet as well as reduced control of my legs. Not bad, just enough to make mobility something that isn't just natural like it was in my younger years (last year).
Got rear-ended by a van last October, and that may have shifted things just enough that when I stopped physical therapy, this new symptom got much worse. (At first, I thought it was athlete’s foot!)
I wondered if neuropathy was just a term for the symptom, but if a neurologist can be an idiot, this one was.
First he said it couldn’t be my back because it doesn’t hurt at the same time as the foot. Then he said to stand up and close my eyes and asked if I was losing my balance. I said I guess a little, and he said that means you have neuropathy. Then he sent me for some blood tests and I never went back.
