Oh thank you! I love to see mugs I don't have. I've been going since 2007 to WDW, before it was a all DL, so I love to see the resort specific mugs.

"We" really need to fix our passenger rail system. The idea of Amtrak having to yield to all freight trains really messes with schedules that the engineers are pressed to keep on schedule. Over the 7 years my kids took Amtrak I could count on one hand the times the train was less than a couple hours late on a 3 hour ride. Multiple times pulled over while freighters wanted through and stopped to off load cars. It is frustrating to the passengers too. I'm not condoning the actions but I do understand the pressure to keep to the schedule. This keeps happening and yet "we" as a nation do not fix the rail system. Priorities Legislators.

Agreed! I think our entire rail system is completely antiquated. The country probably loses billions of dollars in lost productivity every year. Why can't we modernize our rail system? It seems like we just don't dream big anymore.

So we had a nice time with my 4 year old great niece. She went back with my brother after we watched Lilo and Stitch and Tarzan. Correction: my son and I watched those two movies while my niece played with my cats and used the wand I got from Cinderella ' s Royal Table to turn my cats into princesses, even my male cat. He didn't mind.

Our library gets the oldest moldiest books around. I read and then donate, or read a couple times, then donate. I figure I enjoyed them, and the recipes, someone else might like them, if only for the recipes...and pass them on.

Wow. That's odd that your library doesn't have better temperature/humidity controls in place, to prevent that from happening to some of the books there. Anyway, on a related note, there is something called a "book swap" at one of the train stations I go to. There are shelves full of books, and the sign says to leave a book, take a book. I think that's a great sharing idea.

Yah, that's frustrating. Up here on the Northeast Corridor (Boston/New York/Philly), we have the busiest tracks (and most lucrative routes) in the country for Amtrak. They often have delays from minor to lengthy, although many of the delays usually aren't major. My frustration is that I often take a commuter rail train, and the local trains have to yield right-of-way to Amtrak. So if we have a late Amtrak train coming down from Maine, it sometimes holds up the local trains at a station, until the Amtrak passes by on the track. We rarely have to deal with any sort of freight train delays in my area (north of the city), but more south of Boston and beyond, that is more of an issue from time to time (so I've heard).

Haven't a clue how to fix the system. I think back years ago to a discussion with my father. He mentioned that after WWII, Europe needed to rebuild after the war damage, and they looked at the most expedient ways of transporting people around. Rail transport was given a priority. Meanwhile back here in the U.S., he said that cars were the "thing" and everyone wanted a car. If they could have a car, they didn't care about trains so much. Whether he was right or not, I believe he expressed a valid point. Americans do love their cars. (Personally, I'd rather take a train! Ha! But that's me . . . :cat: ) In conclusion: if dad was right, then a large group of the American voting public may not want to invest more money for rail service. :(

Anyway, all that aside, if the preliminary news reports are correct about the accident in Philadelpha, then it just came down to human error.

Rope drop. Heh. Who needs it?

Been 2+ times a year every year since I was a baby and have only done rope drop twice, and both times were Blizzard Beach before we got premium APs.

I think rope drop can work for many people, especially those who have limited time (days) at WDW. At least if they get there early, they can usually get two of the premium rides within a fairly reasonable time. Then they can go on to other attractions, thereby maximizing their time.

Also, it's also a bit cooler the earlier you go. I know that for me, midday to mid-afternoon is brutal in the heat and humidity, and I leave the parks at that time for cooler indoor activities. Then I return late afternoon.

Downside was when they went in years ago my two golden retrievers took up residency. They'd often jockey for the window bench.

Heh, heh . . . dogs "live" everywhere! We have this rule with Jack that he can only enter the bedroom if we let him in. Then, he can lounge on the rug in there, but not climb on furniture, etc. Yesterday morning, we forgot to shut the bedroom door in the morning. When I came home last night, I went upstairs and guess what I saw? No, it wasn't Jack (he knows he's not supposed to be in there if we are not there), but . . . ALL, repeat ALL of Jack's toys (about 8 of them . . . ) had mysteriously "appeared" all over the bedroom rug! BUSTED!!

Just stopping in to say HI! All is well except my FIL now is having back problems and we have to and mow their lawn until it's better. I skipped this weekend due to allergies (sent the boys down and had a quiet day). @StarWarsGirl95 I hope finals are going well and I hope the rest of you are well. I'm also trying to finish up the rest of our outline for the trip as we should be able to book soon. I'm hoping my ds's school schedule and my dh's work calendar come out soon! Then I can finally book the condo and relax until my 180 day mark. ok, ok by 2 or 3 weeks before that I'm hoping Disney's calendar will be up, so I can plan park days. One of my friends wrote a book and is having her first book signing soon, I have to put that day on my already over crowded calendar. xoxo Figgy

I do a mix of approaches when we go to the parks. Usually we hit them at rope drop the first two days and don't leave til closing time then sleep in our third day and rest that day. It works for us. But we might change it up. This year, my son's and my first day will be at the 24 hour party.
