Midtown Manhattan, but my aunt lives in rent controlled 1 bed room since 1975 at $125 per monthIn the city or outlying areas…?
Either way, it’s still insane.
Not long before Carolyn and I were married back in ‘88, we rented a 2-bedroom down the street in the same complex my MIL now lives in for $350.
Granted, that was over 34 years ago, but, they also reported that the rent increase was 26% Y/Y.
My grandmother in Queens, then my aunt had a 3 bedroom for not much more than that. It cost the owner a bundle to get them to move to a smaller apartment when my grandmother moved to assisted livingMidtown Manhattan, but my aunt lives in rent controlled 1 bed room since 1975 at $125 per month

The last time I talked with her she advised me but I will ask her about thisOK, maybe I’m misunderstanding. Although I’m familiar with the term “rent control”, I’ve never lived anywhere it existed.
Has she been paying $125 since ‘75, as the research I did below would suggest otherwise…?
Just trying to understand…
