In the early 1950s the legendary football coach Bear Bryant of Alabama was a coach at Texas A&M. The infamous summer training the Junction Boys was a near death experience for many. 2-a-day practices for 10 days, players sleeping in non AC huts, 100 players started the camp, 30 players survived, 70 quit the team. How high school and college teams practice in August in TX is an amazing feet in itself.
I've heard of the Junction Boys. I recalled ESPN did a movie on them back in the early 2000s.

That being said I still remembered hearing about Korey Stringer's August 1st, 2001 death on the news. Korey Stringer was a Minnesota Viking that died from heatstroke on the 2nd day of NFL Training camp.

I never played high school football, but I remember the 2-a-day stories. Not sure if that’s even a thing anymore, as there have been some deaths.
However, I was a starter (defense) on our varsity soccer team my junior and senior years.
Towards the end of my sophomore year, even though we had a Town & Country soccer league we all played in, we lobbied the school board to make soccer part of the high school athletic program.
Our head coach ended up being one of our assistant football coaches who had played soccer at The University of Texas.
The first half of my junior season we did 2-a-days.
Then, he decided we ran our butts off enough with just one practice, so the extra one was dispensed with.
Plus, soccer season was during the cooler months. Between the Town & Country league and HS, I remember playing a few games in freezing weather.

Seriously, I don't know how you get by in those high temperatures, for such a long stretch. We just got through 6 days of a heat wave, with 2 of them at 100. I didn't go out much at all, and felt like a hermit inside for the past week.

Today is much better with the Canadian air finally pushing through down here last night. It's 67 out now. Ahhhh . . . I can breathe!!

I’ve lived in only warm/hot climates all my life (almost 60 years now, Central Texas for 46+ years as of a few days ago) so I’m pretty acclimated.
Granted, I’m not out sprinting around the block during the heat of the day (especially at my age ;)), but, it’s also not something that affects me in an adverse manner just being out in it.
On the flip side, there is no way I could live were y’all do, with all those months of cold and snow. Plus, there’s NO WAY Carolyn would ever live in a cold climate again…she detests the cold…!!!!! :eek:o_O:hilarious:

Glad to here you’re gettin’ some cooler weather.
Breathe…….….innnnnnn through the nose…..ouuuuuuut through the mouth…!!!!!!! :D:hilarious:;):)
