The 27th...but my oldest said it's an exam make-up day and they aren't taking attendance? It's weird. We only had one or two snow days that I remember, and we started before Labor day...and even when we started AFTER Labor day, the 27th would have been very late for us. I don't get it.@ImperfectPixie , when does school get out in your area? Up here, it seems to be a fluid ending date (depending upon individual schools/districts),, anywhere from the 14th to past the 20th. Anyway, does your family have any (travel/other) plans for the summer, or are you all doing staycations, for the most part?
Yah, the late ending date in June surprised me as well, for (some) of the schools up here. I don't know anyone with kids in the schools now, so I don't know the reason why the late date. (Schools here also started after Labor Day, which is the same schedule they've had for many years, including when I was a kid.)The 27th...but my oldest said it's an exam make-up day and they aren't taking attendance? We're staying home this summer - swimming lessons at the pond for the win!
For those who are much older than me...(ex @Figgy1 )

I mean, despite it not being IN our country, we were certainly involved in things like D-day. Why DON'T we know more about it when it's part of our history, too? And I know a lot of veterans preferred not to talk about their experiences in the war because they triggered horrible memories. My uncle was shot, probably in the battle of the bulge, but we don't know for sure because he wouldn't talk about it. He came home with PTSD, and we know he was shot, and we know he was in the battle of the bulge, we just don't know if that's WHERE he was shot. But those memories aren't happy ones, so I get him being reluctant to share them.I don't think it's afraid, more of not interested if it happened outside your country.
My grandfather, on my mother's side was at the evacuation of France and the little boats. He never wanted to speak of that. I totally understand what you mean.I mean, despite it not being IN our country, we were certainly involved in things like D-day. Why DON'T we know more about it when it's part of our history, too? Yeah, and in that case, it's not fear at all, it's just not wanting to relive a traumatic experience. But I think in the US, a lot of times, people don't ask, because they don't want to know the answer. My grandfather, on my mother's side was at the evacuation of France and the little boats.
