I don't recall shooting at you, I was shooting at the person(s) that wrote that article. I am a firm believer in the idea that if you properly maintain your vehicle it will last a long time. How fast you drove it the first few miles has very little to do with it if it was built properly. Newly built engines can be run hard such as those in race cars and airplanes.

It was a joke.
But, from what I’ve read, both new race car and jet engines are also recommended to have a run up or break-in period, as well. The key word being “recommended”. It may just be a CYA thing by the manufacturer, but, I don’t see how any engine that hasn’t been at operating temp for any appreciable amount of time can be broken-in right off the line.

;)

Well, if they didn't play such stupid head games with their customers, they WOULD have had the sale. :cautious: To heck with them.

Yea, it’s still a “gotcha’” game to many of them, instead of just bein’ straight-up.
But, I don’t see how bein’ in a dealership negotiating, for sometimes hours at a time, is more profitable than just makin’ a quick sale at a reasonable price and movin’ on to the next customer to do same…but, I’m sure they run the stats on that, so they must be right…??? 🤷‍♂️

I would have done the same thing regarding the price difference.
But, I’m not sure what the rest of your post means.
When I’m on the interstate, I’m generally passing other cars or they’re passing me, and then I don’t see them again. Cruising at highway speeds, I can’t tell who’s driving a manual tranny or not.
Clarify, please.
When I'm at 70 mph , I slow down to 60, 55, up to 70 varying speeds and I'm on the slow lane. A few in the slow lane behind me light up their high beams at me at times, then the same cars are behind me in the slow lane probably wondering why do I keep varying engine speeds. Gotta love that new car smell when you buy it new!

I still don’t understand why you were doing that, so I’ll just leave it there.

I'm not sure what you mean but even the salesman told me to vary the engine speeds during new car break in period , car had 9 miles on odometer when I bought it, and I had a 4 hour interstate drive home.

OK, that makes more sense. I didn’t realize your drive home was that long, and I’ve read that you should not use cruise control on a new car, as the RPMs need to be varied for a while.
My drive home on the interstate when I bought my new ‘85 Mustang GT was only about 10 mins. before I got back to regular roads and traffic lights, so I didn’t hafta’ deal with that.

Gotta be an annoyance somehow, I guess.

It’s an engine break-in recommendation from the manufacturer.
I did find that there is at least one car that you can take directly to the track and drive the carp outta’ it when you buy it new…the Acura NSX.
Before they even install it in the car, they run the engine at varying loads and speeds up to no more than 4,000 RPM for the equivalent of 150 miles.
But, that’s a rare exception.
