We have tons of deer where we live, but there's so much undeveloped land in this area (the huge state forest is 1/4 mile from our front door as the crow flies, and we're surrounded by woods) that hearing of someone hitting one with their car is a rarity (thankfully).

Wild turkeys on the other hand...it's as if they WANT me to cook them for Thanksgiving dinner! Seriously though, they're an issue every fall, especially on the highway - they can do some serious damage to your car and basically explode when you hit them at high speed. On our busy through-street (speed limit ranges from 35-45mph), they've almost caused accidents more than a few times when a flock decides to cross and causes someone to slam on their brakes.

Although, there are wild turkey in Texas, I’ve never seen any in our area. Deer, on the other hand, are like an infestation here (or, more like people are ;))
The more affluent neighborhood across the road, without privacy fencing, that I drive through to and from work (to get to and then from my country back road shortcut) is packed with ‘em. Sometimes a many as a dozen in a yard at a time.
The speed limit is only 30 mph, but, ya’ still hafta’ be careful.

Yep, spent much time over the years doing my own car repairs. Learned mostly from my Pop, and car mags.
My Pop had a ‘55 Chevy, and then a ‘57 Chevy with a Power Pack, and was a classic shade tree mechanic…not so much now, at age 89.
I’ve never attempted any kinda’ hot rod building myself, but, I had 2 close pals that dropped a Chevy 327 small block into a ‘75 Vega…oh, the fun…!!!!! 🤣
Were they first gen Camaros, next gen (the ones with the doors that were 9’ long and weighed 2,000lbs. :hilarious:), or beyond…?!

The pic below is what my Pops ‘57 looked like…some of the trim that is slightly gold denotes the “Power Pack” (4bbl., dual exhaust, and higher performance heads) option…!!!!! :)

They were a '78 and 2 '79s...a '79 straight Camaro that had a 350 under the hood that was in excellent shape, a '78 z28 that had lighter body pieces (doors, trunk, hood, etc.) and all the fancy body scoops, and a '79 Berlinetta that was fully loaded and in AWESOME shape cosmetically, but that only had a wimpy 305. A buddy of mine was helping me, and we were using his parents barn...until they decided they changed their minds about letting us use it. 🤬

Yep, definitely of the humongous door variety…!!!!! :hilarious:
I remember all those models. A buddy of mine from back in the day had a ‘78 RS at one point.
Bummer about the barn.

We're still iced in and it's colder today but at least we still have power knock wood. I see a hot bath in my future and a groundhog in the chili with cornbread:angelic:
Are you sure you not considering having the following things:

The walkway has been mostly cleared and the car has been uncovered but the roads are still bad enough we're not going anywhere.
Street out front looks reasonably good. Car was totally encased in ice, and I could only scrape off some of the ice today, but only made a dent in how much is still there. Hopefully, tomorrow might melt a bit more of it, so that at least we can get the (frozen) car door open! :joyfull:

Our streets are fine...they salted the hell out of them overnight.

Cars had some ice and about an inch of snow on them...let the car warm up and did the best I could cleaning it...there's still a thin coating of ice stuck to the roof though, even though we went out to get our oldest his booster. I tried smacking it with the end of the brush to crack it so it would slide off, but it's just thick enough that it didn't work.

Car covers are a good investment;)

@Mr Ferret 88 . I ran across an interesting bit of info. about what people on Guernsey, call each other. (I pasted a copy of this from Google below.) Have you ever been called a donkey?! :joyfull: (Then again, not sure if the names below refer to ferrets as well.) ;)

From Google --
Guernsey people are traditionally nicknamed donkeys or ânes, especially by Jersey people (who in turn are nicknamed crapauds - toads). Inhabitants of each of the parishes of Guernsey also have traditional nicknames, although these have generally dropped out of use among the English-speaking population.
