United States of Bad music

Yea, we watched that movie on Disney plus one night when we were out in Ruidoso.
Sarah loves the movie. I didn’t care for it.
That song may be relevant to the storyline, but, in and of itself, I don’t care what anyone says, that song just flat-out sucks.

I can't ice skate either. I tried ice skating as a kid, but it was to easy for me to fall down.

Good news there is no ice where I live. Bad news is unexpected snow happened today. The weather people originally called for no snow, but got lake effect snow instead.
Love no ice but giant BOO for the snow

The day the music died February 3, 1959

Even though it happened about 3 years before my time, sad day, that. A Beechcraft Bonanza, I believe the plane was…?
Originally, Waylon Jennings (Buddy Holly’s bass player at the time) was supposed to be on that flight, but, gave up his seat to a sick Big Bopper, because the replacement bus the rest would be traveling on had no heater and the plane did.

Any car that doesn't have all season tires and still drives with summer tires is asking for trouble. Cold temps with summer tires is a huge safety issue. Snow tires help stop the car better in very cold temps and help with ice to a point but the most important is slow down and keep your distance . The chance of southern state drivers switching to snow tires is slim.

Yep, that’d be more of a PITA than it’s worth down here.

Safety has come along way in the Northeast. When I visited NJ suburbs one winter, I think 3 out of every 4 cars on the road were AWD, with many SUVs. When I spent time there as a kid, the vehicles were RWD, FWD, and snow tires, and chains were the norm. Didn't have the opportunity of many AWD selections back in the day and I think drivers were more careful on the roads because of what they were driving. When the weather turns bad when in the area recently I just see that the some of the AWD drivers drive like there was no inclement weather , and the FWD and even some RWD Mustangs, Camaros drive in a slower manner.

Back in ‘85 when we had 3 decent snows within’ about a month of each other, my pop put the chains on his truck for the first time ever. The truck and cab over camper were purchased slightly used in No Cal back in ‘71.
My Pop was drivin’ around pullin’ other folks cars outta’ ditches, etc.
I remember when the roads got patchy, the sound those chains made on the bare asphalt v. the ice/snow…!!!!! :hilarious:
Thus, why they’re not legal in most states anymore, as they chew up the bare roads.

There are some, but not a lot. They're usually in the slow lane with people driving sedans. I'm not kidding though...the vast majority of people who drive AWD or 4x4 don't know how to use those features...I once had to pull an F250 out of a snowbank with my little 99' Isuzu Amigo 4x4 (great little truck...it kills me that they don't sell them in the US anymore).

Yep, too many folk with 4x4s think they’re “traction invincible”…snow, mud, steep grades off road, fine. Ice is a whole other story.
One of my pet peeves is the way I’ve seen too many folks crossing iced overpasses.
I was taught a long time ago…
Leave a lot of room between you and any vehicle in front of you.
Maintain your lane.
And, let off the gas and coast, and definitely don’t hit your brakes.
Too many oblivious people out there.

Mine was a stick. Fully loaded, ragtop & sunroof. The thing that makes these little trucks so great though is they have a big V6, a truck ladder-style frame, the size of the wheels and wheel base, and the gear ratios. They have get-up-and-go to spare.

I’ve posted this before, but, not sure if you were here then…? 🤔
The first vehicle I ever learned to drive was a 1963 International Harvester pickup with 3 on the tree, at age 13 on my Pops family farm.
The funnest stick car I ever owned was a 1985 Mustang GT. Good grief, that car was fun to drive…!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Granted, it was only rated at 225 bhp (I know recently the top end was around 480 bhp), but, I loved the way it was geared, and it just loped up the neighborhood hills (had a decent amount of low-end torque, too).
And, of course, there was the sound it made when you kicked in the secondaries…!!!!! :hilarious:
Unfortunately, they went to fuel injection in the 1986 model (can’t remember if it was throttle body, or the real thing…? 🤔

Between 1988 and 2002, myself and DWifey both drove sticks.
I drove sticks from 1988-2016-ish.
We started off with a 1988 Hyundai Excel…DWifey still had her 1985 automatic Mustang 6-banger, but, wanted to learn to drive stick.
In 1990 we purchased a new 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 2WD. That was DWifeys ride. It had the 4 liter straight 6, and that thing got up and flew for what it was…!!! :)
In 2002 we traded the Cherokee in for a used 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan, that DWifey drove.
Between 1988 and 2016 I drove the previously mentioned Excel and a 1996 Hyundai Accent.
I do miss driving a stick, but, about the time my 1996 Accent was giving out, my present ride was offered to us at no charge.
Stick is like second nature to me. When you know it well, you don’t even think about it…!!! :)

It becomes second nature! Hubby laughs because he taught me how to drive a stick, but I'm actually better at it than he is, lol.
