IF I was on Medicare, this commercial would certainly tempt me to call the number Bill Shatner promotes.
Yet there are numerous other companies with excellent commercials as well.
Is there any "catch" ? Are these companies dangling a carrot yet maybe there is fine print that might have negative impacts on Medicare covered folks?
I have NO understanding of any of this so please DO assume I know nothing and fill me in on whatever you know.
Thanks! ;)

There are probably 25 ads making the rounds right now. I'll be so happy when enrollment is over!
The things that they seem to have in common are:
"We'll check your zip code to see what you are eligible for"
"You could get more money in your government checks"
"You may be able to pay lower co-pays"
"you may be able to get free dental care".
*
What IS an example of how this has a catch to it?

The only catch it seems to have is that it is slightly deceiving. For example, the only way you get that $147. extra in your SS check is if you signed on for Part B when you started getting SS payments. If you decided to drop it you will get back your $147 that you had been paying for Part B. One way or the other you will still have to pay for something to cover that. You have to be pretty much living strictly on SS to gain from all that but they will tell you if you are eligible, due to income, to some extra benefits. So it could be good for some people especially for dental. Just like all the rest of our organs our teeth begin to give out as well. And that ain't cheap. They will take your information tell you what you might be able to do and then either give you the numbers, links to contact or pass it along to the groups that offer additional coverage. For some, it is a major help, but my guess is it might be minor or not at all.

Every year during the month of November is see commercials re. the annual Medicare Open Enrollment period.
I'm not on Medicare but commercials like this have me feeling curious.....

There is a certain window of time every year that you can legally make changes and sign up for supplemental programs that become available. So there is a barrage of them right now. I believe the window closes this month.

In fairness, very few companies give New Years Eve day off. It's not all that common. Proof? Bet you can go to Target, eat and drink in restaurants or bars, call cabs or take a bus, go to the bank or hospitals or a Disney park and more on the 31st.

Yep, they will not be adding a third “Flower”…!!! ;) :)
We agreed that only two was sufficient as well. Didn't guarantee, just didn't try. Now they they have grown up they have remained flowers but I am the only gardener left and they are sometimes more work then before. I, however, have a trick up my sleeve, if history tends to follow a normal process, I am expecting to be the flower before long. :D There even is a real possibility that it has started already.

All of them to be honest.

1. Very few people qualify for the extra money, but they pretty much tell everyone they do. Once you have switched it is very hard to switch back. 2. If you paid into a part B plan you may be eligible, but it is money you have already paid. If you cancelled part B you could get that back without switching.
3. Your co pays are based on income and unless you have no other income, savings, or assets, you will not get cheaper than medicare. In the vast majority of cases the copay will be higher.
4. In very few instances will many qualify for dental that didn't already qualify under another benefit plan such as Medicaid.
5. Things like you may qualify for rides to doctors appointments maybe true, but are not through the supplemental plan but through resources that already exist in a community.
6. Another favorite is we will send a check for over the counter medications. Some do, but it is a small amount and you buy it from them. Think of a 27 dollar bottle of Tylenol.

Everytime you hear one of the commercials, count the number of times they use "May" and the number of times they guarantee anything. My sister is a shrink specializing in Geriatric medicine. She screams at the television every time one of these adds run.

I know I’ve posted this before, but, Carolyn and I originally planned to have 4 kiddos. We are both 1 of four siblings.
When special needs DS (Matthew) was born 17 months after our oldest DD (Megan) we decided to cut 4 to 3, and wait a few years. Well, as they say, the best laid plans…!!!!! :hilarious:
As a result, the difference in age between oldest and youngest is about 3 years and 2 months.
Shortly after youngest DD (Sarah) was born, I had a procedure done…. :cyclops::hilarious:

You are lucky.

My dad worked in the electric field before he retired. Before my dad had enough time in the company for days off priority, he was stuck working on holidays. He did get extra money for working holidays, but that does not excuse what deal with for New Years Eve. Also for part of my dad's career, he had to work swing shift and he had to work on New Year's Eve night.

My dad's experiences working at night that late for New Years Eve was so bad that he stays home on New Years Eve even back when his swing shift days ended when I was 10 years old.

He had to avoid people who had no business driving. What I am referring to is people who had too much New Years cheer and were driving.

20 years ago, it took me 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic to leave DHS parking lot on NYE to get back to where we were staying.

We normally wouldn't get it off, but New Year's Day is on a Saturday, so the Federal holiday is on Friday. So is Christmas Eve this year.
