Continuing with more yard work this week. Our landscaper guy came over yesterday afternoon to dig us some level land for an 18ft pool. Dh, my neighbor and I started at 9am. Went a few inches and hit rock. We live at the top of a hill and it is all limestone. Dh was saying no way we could get it done manually. I called our landscaper the week before but he was so busy we weren’t sure he would make it. Then the guys came to cut the grass so I went inside. Lo and behold had a call from the owner. Asked if the afternoon would work. Heck yeah! Came at one and was done before two. There were some huge rocks that got dug up. Hence if we ever wanted an inground dynamite would need to be used. 🤣 Anyway pool is up and half filled with water. Took a picture also of the fairy garden we made. The mushrooms and lights are solar. Looks so pretty at night. We have herbs planted and some perrenials. Threw in some marigolds and planted wildflower seeds in two corners. While digging out old tarp we found a bees nest. They are harmless. Think they are bumble bees. They paid us no mind so we left them and put tomato cages where the nest is so no one will disturb them. Youngest named one of them Arnold. She says he only goes to the pink flowers. The birds love the little water features. Bought solar fountains from amazon. Now we just have to pretty the “moat” around the pool. Going to buy landscaper tarp and put pitted plants around it.View attachment 562183View attachment 562184

My situation was a little more volatile. I had been briefly talking with my Dad who I hadn’t seen since I was five, because my Mom had contacted him the previous year to pay for a Saturday college art class I qualified for while in high school.

My mother’s current husband and I were going to kill each other.

She called Dad again to say I was out of control, and maybe he could talk some sense into me; so he came to pick me up for a few days and that’s how we “met.”

His conclusion after those few days was that I wasn’t messed up, I was in a messed up house. He suggested I move in with him (about 90 minutes away.) This threw my mother for a loop, and when I couldn’t give her an answer on the spot as to whether I intended to go or not, she threw me out for even considering going.
Sad and unique, I think. But, really was it a bad thing (other then mother being upset), was it better out of the house or worse. You seem, based on your posts to be stable, focused and responsible. More than can be said for those "adults" that spend their time in their mothers basement.

Having lived in MA my entire life, the word, grinders, was not used. Sub sandwiches was the term used here. Now, it may be that some isolated regional border areas (example: western MA/NY or MA/VT borders) might have used that, as well as grinders; but again, grinders was considered an out-of-state term. I don't think I even heard that term until I was in my teens.
I didn't live in MA, so I'll take your word for it, but remember Vermont was a lot slower in adjusting to new things than other places. Also I am older than you and it might have changed some point before you remember. I'll go with the first one. I can remember managing a Ben Franklin variety store in the early 70's and the BF consultants would practically go insane because we only carried white mens shirts at a time when every place on the continent was into colors and pastels. We gave them a try, but couldn't give those away, however, we were always running out of white ones. It was at least another few years before it started to change. At that point the rest of the country was probably onto the next big phase.

What's wrong with living in mom's basement
If you're paying all the bills
