Weird... I was sitting here looking as some random stuff on You Tube and my phone rang. The caller ID said only "Mainland China". I let it go to voice mail (nothing was left on it). About 2 minutes later, the phone rang again. Same number. Since I don't know anyone from Mainland China I let it go to voice again with still no message. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Your not missing anything. Dunkin is overrated but I don't think they're overseas. Starbucks is good but pricey. Never had Timmy Hortons.

The best donut shops are mom and pop shops. The one in RI that's the best went a little crazy during the election.
Dunkin is overseas. There's one in Utrecht here, and one in Amsterdam, and probably Den Bosche. Not many, but they're here.

Yep, but, I get it. Water features, especially indoors, can become problematic, over time.
To me anyway, it just immersed you so much more into the Polynesian theme than the images I’ve seen from the current incarnation.
The lobby can be the lobby of any hotel now. Nothing special about it. I do like the lamps though. If they can keep The Living Seas in great shape, they could have found a way to maybe make a new water feature that would have been easier to maintain. Maybe if they would have had fish in it it would have helped.

Never China. Think I have gotten Serbia before.

So E is in her 3rd year of high school, which is halfway through, so she has to decide on what direction she wants to take next year. They have to choose one of 4 profiles. There's a culture/creative profile, an Economics and social studies profile, a science that's more on the biology side, and a science that's more on the technology side. Last night was the information meeting for the parents about what each of the profiles are and how to go about choosing. The profile you choose will determine what careers you can study later. Up to this year, everything has been general...they have to take everything. E has something like 15 subjects this year. Next year, it becomes more directed at your future career. So the...I guess guidance counselor is the closest I can come to an equivalent, but that's not really accurate...anyway, he started off by saying the profile choice is kind of like looking at what you want to make for dinner. You can approach it from "This sounds good tonight!" or "What can I make with what's in my fridge?" and he said "For the profile choice, boys might want to be pilots, and girls want to be princesses." REALLY??? You think 15 year old girls in the advanced placement program want to be princesses? My fierce "little princess" wants to do the science and technology profile with Biology, computer programming, and design technology as her electives. Her female friends want to be: an architect, a police agent, and a forensic investigator. And why bring up gender at all? Why not just say "Being a pilot sounds fun! or I want to save lives, so I'd like to be a doctor!"? Why make a distinction between what the boys and girls are interested in? It was just so out of touch and insulting. They have any career to chose from and his go to is "princess"??
I think the guidance counselor chose very poor wording. Good for E for having a direction and surely she will excel in anything she chooses.

When I was eating unhealthy back in the day, Krispy Kreme glazed were the ones to get. They melt in your mouth especially if you bought it at a franchise location where the donuts are made in-house . I think the new flagship store is in NYC. It all started in Winston Salem NC.

It was 2001 -- about 2 weeks prior to 9/11 -- I was sitting outside the KK store at NY World Trade Center, staring up at the twin towers. I also munching warm, glazed KK donuts and hot coffee, that I had just bought inside. Ahhh . . . fond memories. KK is the best.

To all sorry as I only pop in now and again, too hard to keep up with everyone's comings and goings in this thread but I do read them.

Update for the following (and anyone else really)haven't been doing much that is strenuous and have really been resting my back since October; off Vicodin (I didn't have any withdrawal issues after being on it since June), on something milder now.

So @ImperfectPixie @Tiggerish @TINKWINGS and @MinnieM123 @figmentfan423

Had my first steroid injection in the spine early last week, that's a really weird sensation. So far so good as I'm just starting to get some benefit from it.

Best news of the day! Let's hope the injection gives you relief until you get to the point of surgery (as you had mentioned before). Side note: about 6 years ago, I had a cortizone injection in my left knee. It is a weird sensation, and sometimes these types of shots take a few days before you get the full benefit. So yours may vary as well, but I'm just happy that it's a good interim alternative, away from some of the stronger, daily meds.

Not uncommon at all -- often, the crooks will create any sort of "location" to show up on people's phones. I've had ones from names of local towns, and also city/states in the U.S., and everything from overseas. They all get treated exactly the same -- I do NOT answer. They're no one I know, and even if they were -- they'd leave a message.

One of my sister-in-laws came for Christmas and brought them over. She lives in Jersey. I never had one as I am not a big fan of very sweet things. I did try a piece of a glazed donut, and have to admit it was very good.

I haven't looked it up yet, but the phone number was not from the US. Since I don't have the area codes memorized, it might have been from Europe or some other random place. I was tempted to answer it just out of curiosity but that would have made me one of those clueless elderly everyone laughs at for being so unaware. I have to admit that I am curious though.

I have had calls from Jamaica, and I don’t know anyone there. No messages have been left on the voicemail.

These callers can be very clever, and try a multitude of phony displays. Even received one the other day from supposedly "Boston College". (Side note: the only person I know that attended Boston College was my father -- and that was a long time ago! :p) Nope, didn't answer, no message, etc.

I might answer one from Boston College figuring that they saw a picture of me and just assumed I was about to graduate from high school. The curse of eternal youth! 🤔 🤓🙂
