You may have gotten your answer, but I have a friend who swears by it.Anyone on this thread ever use Airbnb?
I went on the website and found a property ( Instead of a hotel when returning our daughter to college)
Like everything in the world I guess I'll have to sign up? Create a User Name and a Password?
Should I download an app?
Please give a newbee any advice.
Thanks!
Steve
Love that idea! We're changing up New Year's Eve. We're celebrating it a day early (Weds. night). Hey, why not get rid of 2020 by pushing it up a night, right?!
Every year, we get Chinese food take-out. All orders have to be called in ahead of time. They assign a pick-up time, to try and control (some) of the chaos, when tons of people are descending upon this (little) restaurant. So, I was thinking yesterday that I didn't want hubs to be waiting in the pick-up line with a lot of other people, during the high # of virus cases (we're included in a number of communities now, in a red zone). Hence, I bounced the idea of celebrating a day early, and he was all for it.
And we also have a bottle of sparkling cider at home, so maybe we'll save that for the (actual) New Year's Eve, and have a toast!
That's great! During both Pre Covid and Post Covid I can very much understand thatYou may have gotten your answer, but I have a friend who swears by it.

I thought I would share some scenes from the Arboretum and our trip to the Italian deli. We got a sausage sandwich to go and ate it in the car and brought home some of the bread in the picture and a tray of lasagna!
the hiking was fun, the trail wasn’t icy. We didn’t think the snow shoe trails would be open especially since we don’t have a ton of snow but where the Arboretum is they have more snow. So we regretted not bringing our gear. Oh well maybe in a couple weeks.

That might depend on the venue. I have never used airbnb....or....I don't think so....maybe my husband used that to book the apartment where we stayed in Frankfurt Germany. That was fine, except there was a miscommunication because the guy was French and didn't speak English and my husband's French is not great, and the guy's German was only so so. We didn't have enough sheets and blankets, and the guy had to go get a key to the trunk with the extras. It all worked out eventually. But we made that reservation the night before, so I don't know what the cancellation policy was. That's great! During both Pre Covid and Post Covid I can very much understand that
The thing we discovered last night was that airbnb's cancellation policies are not as flexible as hotels.
If we booked our chosen airbnb last night for my wife's Virginia arrival date of Jan. 14th....we'd have to cancel within 48 hours (of last night). Our concern was: What IF my DD's University said.."Out of an abundance of caution we are adjusting the requested arrival date to Feb. 1st". If FOR EXAMPLE they declared that on Jan. 4th....we'd be out all of our pre paid money. Yet the Hilton Garden Inn reservation I DO have for Jan. 14th will allow us to cancel even just one day prior to her arrival.
So sweet of you to ask, @MinnieM123! We celebrated with them a week early (a blessing in disguise as Woody became ill on Christmas Eve) and both girls were so adorable, patient and grateful with gift unwrapping. Lots of Frozen themed presents, as that is their current favorite.@Tuvalu , how was your Christmas? I'll bet that Tuvalette and Tuvaleen both got many gifts from Santa!
I would say that at least 90% of hotels in the United States let you cancel without penalty either 24 hours or 48 hours in advance. The other 10% that don't are in super popular / high demand areas such as the example you gave. That might depend on the venue. But I was looking at hotels for this Summer for our Yellowstone/Wyoming trip, and the place I wanted to book just outside Yellowstone requires you to cancel a month in advance to get PART of your money back. There is no way to get all of your money back once you book. So I can't book it because I don't even know if we'd be allowed to enter the states yet. Every hotel has their own policy. Some let you cancel up to a day in advance with no fee, some won't let you cancel at all.

And they were very excited to learn they get to go back to WDW in February for Gramma Tu’s birthday (assuming it is safe and everyone is well.)
Unfortunately he is still dealing with an infection in a salivary gland (possible stone which hasn’t passed yet.) He cannot chew or swallow without excruciating pain (he is taking meds for infection and pain.) And I started with a bad cold on the 26th....things are pretty pitiful now in the Tuvalu household.Sounds like a great time with the little Tuv's! And so nice that a WDW trip with them is on the books. Sorry to hear the Woody was sick on Christmas Eve, how is he now? Better I hope.
Hope you guys feel better!!! Sending hugs and pixie dust!!!Unfortunately he is still dealing with an infection in a salivary gland (possible stone which hasn’t passed yet.)
