OK, Thursday is B-day. (Brian's birthday.) I'm sure it will be a little rough after just losing his Dad (although he was in surprisingly good spirits for Thanksgiving) so I wanted to do something but not too much.

That meant Disney was out, although our friend Gary had volunteered to watch Kylie if I wanted to do that.

A nice dinner out, just the two of us...might leave a little too much room for melancholy. Ordering in...same.

Turns out AMC is letting folks rent out a theater for up to 20 socially distanced people. They have limited movies available, but if you pick a recent release, it's $250. If you pick what they call a "favorite" (almost all of which are Christmas or Christmas-adjacent films) it's $99.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation it is! (Other contenders were: Gremlins (watched it again too recently) Elf (too much sappy Dad stuff, and it's on TV every five minutes) A Christmas Story (can't get over the 24 hour marathons of my youth.)

It looks like most of our Thanksgiving pod will be in attendance - Brian, myself, cousin Tif, and Gary. And that's it! No one else LOL. And our AMC is a dine-in with a bar, so it could be fun. It's not a new movie, we can talk if we want to, etc.

For many years, a running gag of mine has been us walking into an establishment that is empty other than the two of us, and I say, "See, I rented out the whole place!" It's not unusual that we are two of maybe 4 to 12 people at a daytime film showing - but this way, we don't have to be at all concerned about sick people showing up, loud people showing up, etc. I will finally get to say, "See, I rented out the whole place!" and mean it! And I think it's totally worth it. If the four of us went to see a standard Thursday movie, it would be nearly $60, anyway. Gotta make the moments where you can, these days.
That sounds like an awesome idea!! Brian shares a birthday with my son! But we're not doing anything nearly that cool. We're going to make chess piece shaped cookies for him to take to chess tomorrow, and watch Pitch Perfect 3. We watched Pitch Perfect on Monday, watched the 2nd one yesterday, and today will be the 3rd. And we're getting take-out...restaurants are closed for inside dining, so takeout it is....probably McDonalds, since it's my son choosing.

Were there any other movies on the favorites list? That's an extremely limited list if not! I don't like any of those. (Sorry....don't hate me....I know that's a very unpopular opinion) Well, I guess lampoon's isn't too bad, but I can't stand A Christmas Story, and Gremlins scared the carp out of me...I was only 6 when our stupid babysitter dumped us with her grandmother and told her to take us to the movies so she could hang out with her boyfriend. So that one just traumatized me. But the idea of renting out the theater is so awesome! I'd love to be able to do that. You guys always come up with such sweet ways to celebrate!

SHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had to replace a phone this week. James found a really good deal, so I caved on a mike on Cyber Monday also an excellent deal. His phone and mike together came to under 1/2 of retail just for the phone. I taught him well:inlove:
Woohoo!! One of my daughter's friends finally broke her phone yesterday. Her phone is so old that she couldn't even open the app with the school schedule or the homework on it. The school has these apps for the daily schedule, so you can see if a lesson gets canceled, or if it's moved to a different room, etc, and then there's another app that teachers put the homework on and your grades, test dates, etc...Her phone was so old that none of the apps worked, so she had to just follow the other kids, etc. But her parents wouldn't let her get a new phone until the one broke. It seemed ridiculous to me...like...she can't even do her schoolwork and you won't let her buy a new phone that will let her? And she's apparently accidentally dropped it into water multiple times, dropped it from a balcony, it's been run over by a car...(she's sooooo clumsy). The thing wouldn't break. I guess yesterday, it fell out of her pocket by the street and got run over by 5 cars and then it was finally broken. And now she has no money for a new one. Good thing it's almost Christmas, I guess.

Yes. Just got one this morning. I've begun answering the phone in Spanish. They really don't know what to do with that. It's only backfired once. 😂
When my husband and I lived in the US, I had him teach me to say one phrase fluently in Dutch. It's not a common language, so telemarketers wouldn't know what language it was and would think by my fluency that I didn't speak English. The phrase I learned to say was "May I use your toothbrush to wipe my bum?" Of course THEY didn't know that, but I did, which made it fun for me.

You folks seem to always accomplish so much so it is my turn to show my ambition. Today is the 3rd of December. All my cards have been written and will be in the mail tomorrow. All my Christmas Gifts for all 10 of my Relatives have been wrapped and are sitting under the little tiny Christmas tree that I own. I know this isn't the proper attitude, but now I am going to make a guess about how many gifts I get back as opposed to the number I have given. It just always strikes me wrong that I bring a backseat full of gifts to both my daughters houses on Christmas and can return mine in my glove compartment. Something is wrong with that. But, it's the giving that counts, they tell me. I'm sure if I live long enough I'll start to believe that.

I guess for me the real gift would be that 2021 is no more than half the crap storm that 2020 has been. That's the plus side! The other side is that I will turn 73 in 2021. Honest to god, I was just 23 in 1971 and recently back from Vietnam and managed to get stationed in at a radar site in Vermont. One year away from getting married in Jan 1972 to someone I had not met yet. What an unimaginable amount of water has run under the bridge since then.
