@ajrwdwgirl , how are things going with your student, who speaks minimal English? I hope you're both doing better.

really no change. I have contacted our Spanish teacher and she is willing to help and has given me some ideas. But I don’t want her overwhelmed since she doesn’t get any additional compensation . Our administration is just ignoring it and their best advice has been our Spanish teacher can help or given him word finds or pictures to match.

I think he does know more English than he has let on. He also is starting to get a little sneaky on the computer, trying to watch music videos but I suppose I don’t blame him since we have no support or time to provide something more meaningful for him.
Thanks for asking though. I know other teachers are getting just as frustrated as I am so there might be a boiling point soon.

Good luck I absolutely believe sneaky is every teenager's middle name but as for the music videos many groups are known by their English name even in non English speaking countries, some kids in my older ds' class could find music videos even though they read at not much more than a first grade level. As for speaking more English than he's letting on I also believe that may be true, see teenager and sneaky but some people aren't comfortable speaking a language they aren't fluent in out of embarrassment. I can't believe your district isn't doing more to help s it's not fair to you or the child

Well, if i get a new job I won't get paid for it. I intentionally like to keep sick time low.

The company I work for said they cap it at 40 hours. Not sure if that's true because I'm at 42. Then again, I think my company makes things up as they go along.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Management making it up as they go along is a sure sign to keep your eyes out for something more stable

That's great. I have applied for a few jobs in Maryland before. Mostly in the airport area and around DC.
DC area is definitely nicer than surrounding BWI, but both areas have nightmarish traffic. Towson Columbia, Ellicott City, Bethesda, and Annapolis are all nice areas. Traffic varies depending on where you live.

We have a paid sick leave bill that came out last year before Covid-19 started. Companies have to give you five days of paid sick leave per year. It can also be used for mental health days. My friend, for instance, is rarely sick, but she works in a nursing home. One night, she had a patient die from CoVid overnight, and it was brutal. She used a day as a mental health day and they legally couldn't tell her no.

They're also considered "safe" leave days so for victims of domestic violence, if they need a day to get to a shelter, leave their abuser, whatnot, it can be used for that.

There's some exceptions to the rule (companies with fewer than a certain amount of full time employees don't have to provide it, you have to be full time, etc) but it's few and far between.

My company has it implemented that if you're eligible for FMLA and you're sick for a week, they have you apply for FMLA and you can use PTO instead so you don't use it up in one shot.

Howdy @figmentfan423 !😉 I actually do know another family in the military that I told to stay at Shades of Green thanks to @figmentfan423 . They loved it. Cannot coordinate vacations though. Too difficult. I think for the forceable future we will stay at Uni and just drive to WDW, unless prices come down to earth. We are a larger family, six of us, so we always need the pricier accommodations. Even AOA got overpriced.

We stayed at AoA in ‘12 in a Cars family suite with my 50% Disney CM discount, when it was actually priced like a value, and really loved the resort.
For our ‘13 trip we wanted to stay there again, but, the similar dates we wanted from the previous year were blocked out for CM discounts, and we weren’t willing to pay the substantial full-price increase from the year before. We ended up stayin’ in an ASMusic family suite with my discount, which we had stayed at twice before at that point, and it was perfectly fine. Yes, unfortunately, AoA is definitely not a value priced resort anymore, and hasn’t been for quite some time.
But, for next October we want to stay there for Emmy because of the big theming, and knowing we’ll probably be spending more time at the resort, plus the Skyliner. As Carolyn priced it out last night, it’ll be about $500 more than ASMusic for a 5-night stay for the entire trip. Not sure what prices will be like a year from now, of course, but, we’re willing to spend the extra since we don’t go all that often...! :)

Disappointed to hear that your school administration is practically ignoring this situation -- and sort of dumping the whole thing in your lap, without any real assistance. This is not fair to you or to the student. I'm surprised that they could get away with this hands-off approach.

(I don't know what other avenues are available to you to request some backup assistance. Are there any kind of video education lessons in his language, for his grade level, that the administration could purchase for him? That might be an option.) Otherwise, I'd assume that it would be nearly impossible to have him move on up the next grade, with this classmates, at the end of the academic year.
