Thanks to all for the bday wishes. It was a day of rushing around, but it was good!

First of all, my experience with my FIL was 100% positive! Brian took me to his room to show me how to empty the bag. Dad is a big right winger (Reagan Republican who didn’t like Trump at first but has since taken to him.) So I walked in, saw a smile, and felt safe enough to joke: “I’m here to collect your ballot.”

He got a kick out of that, and pointed to the Trump hat on the nightstand with a huge grin. I mostly left him alone unless I heard a noise (one time he dropped a glass.) I got some work done. And when I did have to go in and take care of the bag, I put on some gloves, walked in and said, “Florence Nightingale is here.” I added, “You’re loving this, aren’t you?” He said, “Yeah.” 🤣 And as I exited the room, he said, “Love you. Thanks.” 😊😢

Having conquered that, I had two hours to stop home, pick up a wholesale order 30 mins away, take half to one store, stop at the kava bar a few doors down for a bday shot, take the rest to the other store, and get home by 3:30 for a 4PM reservation as per B’s instructions.

Almost made it, had to put off the second stock drop and meet Brian at the venue (which was a surprise, so he gave me directions to the Target in the same plaza.) We went to Vinnie’s Lobster Bar. Haven’t been to a real restaurant since March. Picked a table in a corner near the bar. (The bartender could hand me my old fashioneds without leaving the bar, and no one else would be near us.)

We split a jambalaya app with Italian bread (it was like a dinner portion) plus a Manhattan clam chowder, and I was full! 🤪 Brian had a filet, which was excellent, and I had Maine lobster meat over papardelle with brandy sauce (similar to vodka sauce.) Nothing will ever be Grandma’s lobster gravy, but it was very good!View attachment 494305

I'm so glad your experience with your FIL was a good one. And I'm betting Brian is grateful you were there to help. Do you see any improvement?

Hubby got me a food dehydrator for my birthday... so right now I have strawberries, apples, and little cherry tomatoes drying....... Anyone else do food dehydrating?
I have a question about that....what do you do with the things you dehydrate? Do you just snack on them plain? Or do they go IN something? And what's the texture like? Is it crispy, or chewy? I've always wondered...I love fruit and veggies, but I've never had anything dehydrated.

Dehydrator use is a bit of an art. Dried fruits are chewy like raisins but you can slice veggies thin and have them come out crunchy like chips

Apples are really chewy. I tried it once and gave my dehydrator away. I probably did have them too thick🤦🏻‍♀️
Oh no! Apple chips like beet, squash etc chips have to be sliced very thinly IMHO a mandolin is the best way unless you have an extra fine slice for your processor. Small apple cubes or are good for eating sprinkled with cinnamon stevia, dipped in honey etc.. Apple cubes are also good for putting in oatmeal.

I know and it wouldn't be hard at all to extend the sleeves to the wrist or put a bishop or flutter sleeves on it. I already have a piece of material in my stash that would be perfect for it. I also like supporting small businesses

That dress would be pretty in a solid color, or even a (small) print. Looks like the pattern is very versatile. I like long sleeves in winter, too. :)

Rough initial preliminary CAD blockout of a contempo-fun sprawler in the hills outside of Little Rock, AR...

The design before this one that I finished earlier in the week is goin’ in an Atlanta, GA suburb (no pics, as the neighborhood is WAY more traditional, so, frankly, the plan wasn’t as fun...!!! :D).
We’ve been doin’ homes in other parts of the country for years, but, this is the first time I can remember(?) doin’ 2 in a row...we’ve got so much work comin’ in the door, it’s just crazy...we all feel very blessed...!!! :)

So far mine are on the crispy chewy side... I have been just snacking on them. Hubby threw some dried strawberries in his cereal this morning.

I wore sweatpants to bed last night for the first time since May. The only good part about the weather is no need to turn on the heat or air conditioning.

This evenin’ is the first time I’ve come home to no A/C on in the house, in I can’t remember how long...? 🤔 ...even though our high was still 87, which would make our dear @MinnieM123 retreat into a meat locker...!!!!! :D:hilarious:;)

The biggest improvement since coming home has been in temperament. I know if I went on day one, my experience would have been very different. Brian experienced all the vitriol, violence, defiance, starvation/suicide wish, refusal to take meds or even to let anyone clean him up. Yesterday was the first time Brian got him into the shower (he had been using special bathing wipes) and that’s because Dad’s motivated to get to the doctor today to have the catheter removed.

Maybe he’ll adjust to his new quality of life. Maybe he’ll have the will to try to improve.

From the day of the stroke, his speech has improved, but he is also relying on short sentences and syllables, and other shorthand means of communication. He has had no speech therapy (no physical therapy, no psychological therapy.)

He’ll eat a little bit now and take his meds. Most recent scan showed the kidney stones are all out. I bet if they didn’t cut his blood thinners while in the hospital, this wouldn’t have happened.
