B brought a bday card to the restaurant, and we caught up about our mornings. It was such a nice ā€œvisitā€ as Iā€™ve barely seen him for two weeks! Sadly, that was it, he went back to Dadā€™s and I went home with my huge leftovers (I had about three bites of that homemade pasta and was stuffed lol.) He said there was one more surprise at home (mind you, my gift was already a new iPhone early this month!)

At home, there was another bday card on the table. This one had Mickey on it.

I said, ā€œOh, no - this so-and-so better not have gotten Disney tix - I have so many points to use!ā€

Thankfully, he hadnā€™t. šŸ˜†

But there was a big olā€™ cake in the fridge:

And oh, yes it was! Banana cake with banana cream filling between the layers, chocolate ganache - omg.

That could not have been easy to find around town, and I appreciated how much thought had gone into it with all he has been going through lately.

Today I had leftover pasta for breakfast, banana cake for lunch, some time in the sun in the afternoon, a visit from B to watch a TV show, and tomorrow is back to work if I can button my pants!
That sounds like a great day! I'm glad Dad was cooperative with you! Maybe he just needed someone who wasn't one of his kiddos? Dinner looks great... and I love that the cake tells you what it is!

28 days until I'm 50!

Happy Birthday!

Here's an interesting story I saw this morning.

(If you don't want to read the text, there is a brief video about 3/4's of the way down in the article, showing the dog "singing". ) :)

Now, just to be clear, he doesn't belt out "Old McDonald had a Farm" or anything like that, :p but he does have some interesting tones to hear. The first one you hear sounds pretty much like a regular howl, but further into the clip, there are some unusual sounds. Very cool doggie ! šŸ¶

Out of all 10 pups weā€™ve had, weā€™ve never had any that ā€œsingā€, but (and I know Iā€™ve posted about this before), Rangerā€™s nickname is ā€œChewbaccaā€ because of the playful ā€œgrowlyā€(?) sounds he started makinā€™ shortly after we got him...no video yet, but, the first time he did it we were all ā€œWTH...???!!! Chewbacca, is that you...?!?!?! :cyclops:ā€œ...!!!!! :hilarious:

Vanilla extract is beyond easy. All you have to do is put split vanilla beans in vodka, shake daily for the first month and then at least once a week after that. Cost about $50 in total for a gallon. The hardest part was sourcing the beans, my health food store had the best price on them

Here ya go, Figgy! I think it's an ounce bottle, and it lasts me about a year.

Thanks to all for the bday wishes. It was a day of rushing around, but it was good!

First of all, my experience with my FIL was 100% positive! Brian took me to his room to show me how to empty the bag. Dad is a big right winger (Reagan Republican who didnā€™t like Trump at first but has since taken to him.) So I walked in, saw a smile, and felt safe enough to joke: ā€œIā€™m here to collect your ballot.ā€

He got a kick out of that, and pointed to the Trump hat on the nightstand with a huge grin. I mostly left him alone unless I heard a noise (one time he dropped a glass.) I got some work done. And when I did have to go in and take care of the bag, I put on some gloves, walked in and said, ā€œFlorence Nightingale is here.ā€ I added, ā€œYouā€™re loving this, arenā€™t you?ā€ He said, ā€œYeah.ā€ šŸ¤£ And as I exited the room, he said, ā€œLove you. Thanks.ā€ šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜¢

Having conquered that, I had two hours to stop home, pick up a wholesale order 30 mins away, take half to one store, stop at the kava bar a few doors down for a bday shot, take the rest to the other store, and get home by 3:30 for a 4PM reservation as per Bā€™s instructions.

Almost made it, had to put off the second stock drop and meet Brian at the venue (which was a surprise, so he gave me directions to the Target in the same plaza.) We went to Vinnieā€™s Lobster Bar. Havenā€™t been to a real restaurant since March. Picked a table in a corner near the bar. (The bartender could hand me my old fashioneds without leaving the bar, and no one else would be near us.)

We split a jambalaya app with Italian bread (it was like a dinner portion) plus a Manhattan clam chowder, and I was full! šŸ¤Ŗ Brian had a filet, which was excellent, and I had Maine lobster meat over papardelle with brandy sauce (similar to vodka sauce.) Nothing will ever be Grandmaā€™s lobster gravy, but it was very good!View attachment 494305

Tony, you are such a good person for taking care of your FIL like you did. It sounds like he really appreciated it as well. So happy to read he said ā€œLove youā€.
That banana cake! Oh My Gosh! Looks amazing!! I never had a banana cake but I need one now!:hilarious:

Hubby got me a food dehydrator for my birthday... so right now I have strawberries, apples, and little cherry tomatoes drying....... Anyone else do food dehydrating?
No, but I would love one, just donā€™t know where to store one. I hate having things on my counters. There is only a juicer permanently on my kitchen counter. It is too big and heavy to put anywhere else.

Soccer tourney was cancelled last weekend, now another cancelled this weekend. :(

The governor is making this really tough.

On one hand, at least the soccer kids are somewhat playing again.
On the other, I donā€™t know if theyā€™ll get to do any tourneys at all this season.
Ohio teams arenā€™t allowed to travel out of state, or even out of a 100 mile radius, where tournaments are happening, and where they usually play (but some teams still are, using a technicality).. and, in Ohio, you are not allowed to play 2 games in 1 day. The tournaments have been unable to figure out how to logistically make that work. They hoped to do Thursday-Sunday, but itā€™s really impossible given school hours, and for teams traveling from out of state.

So, 2 cancelled, the other 2 may fold as well. The poor kids are just sad.. tournaments are a huge part of the season, and travel soccer in general.
