Did they release his dad to get rid of him?
Thatā€™s what it seemed like to me. But he was insistent, and an adult, so unless we went the route of a psych eval to officially take away his ability to make the decision, I think they had to let him go.

You know I love Frankie Valli. ā€œWho loves you pretty baby...ā€
He sounds like he was wanting to die before the kidney stones or the stroke ever happened.
On the nose.
Is this instead of one big Record Day blowout?
Yes!
My MIL passed away this morning. An August 2020 from heck for them in-laws.
Oh, no. So sorry.

Thanks to all for the bday wishes. It was a day of rushing around, but it was good!

First of all, my experience with my FIL was 100% positive! Brian took me to his room to show me how to empty the bag. Dad is a big right winger (Reagan Republican who didnā€™t like Trump at first but has since taken to him.) So I walked in, saw a smile, and felt safe enough to joke: ā€œIā€™m here to collect your ballot.ā€

He got a kick out of that, and pointed to the Trump hat on the nightstand with a huge grin. I mostly left him alone unless I heard a noise (one time he dropped a glass.) I got some work done. And when I did have to go in and take care of the bag, I put on some gloves, walked in and said, ā€œFlorence Nightingale is here.ā€ I added, ā€œYouā€™re loving this, arenā€™t you?ā€ He said, ā€œYeah.ā€ šŸ¤£ And as I exited the room, he said, ā€œLove you. Thanks.ā€ šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜¢

Having conquered that, I had two hours to stop home, pick up a wholesale order 30 mins away, take half to one store, stop at the kava bar a few doors down for a bday shot, take the rest to the other store, and get home by 3:30 for a 4PM reservation as per Bā€™s instructions.

Almost made it, had to put off the second stock drop and meet Brian at the venue (which was a surprise, so he gave me directions to the Target in the same plaza.) We went to Vinnieā€™s Lobster Bar. Havenā€™t been to a real restaurant since March. Picked a table in a corner near the bar. (The bartender could hand me my old fashioneds without leaving the bar, and no one else would be near us.)

We split a jambalaya app with Italian bread (it was like a dinner portion) plus a Manhattan clam chowder, and I was full! šŸ¤Ŗ Brian had a filet, which was excellent, and I had Maine lobster meat over papardelle with brandy sauce (similar to vodka sauce.) Nothing will ever be Grandmaā€™s lobster gravy, but it was very good!CEA7C205-0F6A-4FD1-AF39-4D1EAFBB8D68.jpeg

Oh good for your experience with him! Sounds like it went well.

My that food looks yummy!!
We havenā€™t ventured to an inside restaurant yet. Disney will be our first in a couple of weeks.šŸ˜‰

B brought a bday card to the restaurant, and we caught up about our mornings. It was such a nice ā€œvisitā€ as Iā€™ve barely seen him for two weeks! Sadly, that was it, he went back to Dadā€™s and I went home with my huge leftovers (I had about three bites of that homemade pasta and was stuffed lol.) He said there was one more surprise at home (mind you, my gift was already a new iPhone early this month!)

At home, there was another bday card on the table. This one had Mickey on it.

I said, ā€œOh, no - this so-and-so better not have gotten Disney tix - I have so many points to use!ā€

Thankfully, he hadnā€™t. šŸ˜†

But there was a big olā€™ cake in the fridge:

And oh, yes it was! Banana cake with banana cream filling between the layers, chocolate ganache - omg.

That could not have been easy to find around town, and I appreciated how much thought had gone into it with all he has been going through lately.

Today I had leftover pasta for breakfast, banana cake for lunch, some time in the sun in the afternoon, a visit from B to watch a TV show, and tomorrow is back to work if I can button my pants!

Thatā€™s sounds pretty easy.
Love that one!!! It was one of my fav!
Vanilla extract is beyond easy. All you have to do is put split vanilla beans in vodka, shake daily for the first month and then at least once a week after that. Cost about $50 in total for a gallon. The hardest part was sourcing the beans, my health food store had the best price on them

That look excellent. I'm convinced you have to be a grandma to perfect sauce and I'm not ready for the rolled down black stocking set yet

Sounds like you had a good birthday in the end and I'm glad B's dad wasn't too difficult for you. I'm not a fan of lobster but that dish looks delicious!
