Yes, in all likelihood, it will be a few years before we get back to Disney, but yes, I'd love to do that with E. I think she'd really enjoy it. We were talking about it yesterday and she said it would be really cool to be an imagineer. I know they have lots of different areas under the imagineer umbrella, so I thought I'd ask what the ones did who you talked to, and I looked some other stuff up. It sounds like it can really be anything. There's a librarian who's responsible for archiving all the information about existing attractions like wallpaper patterns, ride vehicles, paint colors, etc so that if they refurb, they can be authentic. There are people who design animatronics, design sets, or like you mentioned: signage. But it's a wide range, and it looks like there's not one particular field that is better than another. Engineers, communications, artistic design,...they need people in a lot of fields. It would be right up E's alley. She has always said she'd like to do something creative, and she'd like to help people or make them happy. And one of her favorite classes is the technology design and research class. Local business owners give the kids a project...they give their needs and the specifications and the kids do research and design a product to meet those needs using whatever materials are specified. Like, there was a company that makes cardboard type packaging and wanted to branch out beyond packaging. The kids had to think of something that could be made from cardboard to meet a need in the market. Or there was a company that makes...well, I'm not sure, it looked kind of like PVC and such, and they had to take existing materials and upcylce them into a new use. And it was rather ironic...just before corona happened, they had to do something about disease prevention. They had to choose an illness from a list and figure out a way to prevent its spread, and the one E's group chose was a corona virus...MERS I think? Literally the day of her presentation, the news broke about the Covid19 in China. E's group had had such a hard time finding info about it, and she kept saying it was so hard to come up with a solution because it was spread by camels and the only way to prevent it was to figure out which camels had it, so the only thing they could come up with was a develop a test. But the testing was difficult because it takes a while, and only a few people are certified to do the testing, so you couldn't do it on a large scale. It was too late to add anything, so they had to present their project without the new information on corona viruses. Anyway, the class is basically to research and design new technology/products to meet the needs of the employer. Sounds to me like that's pretty much what imagineering is. That would be a pretty cool career, not pretty versatile...you wouldn't necessarily HAVE to work for Disney, or any theme park really...you could work for just about anyone.

Yep imagineering is really versatile. I wish I had know about it more when career planning as a kid.

I’ve never shopped at one of these, none close to me that I know of but still a little sad.

Back in 1968, L&T built a store in Boston and it's been there ever since. It was one of the best (large) stores in the city, and had a combination of high-end, and moderately priced clothing, shoes, etc., for men and women. They also had nice gift and seasonal holiday shops inside. When I used to work near that location, I'd go in there for the sales, which were great.

Sorry to see it go, as it was an anchor store on a street in a nicer section of the city.
