A few pictures of Downtown Marceline.

It was cool to see the downtown that had inspired Walt so much, and walking around we could definitely see touches that made its way to Main Street in Disneyland & MK. It was also kind of sad because a lot of stores were closed and empty; could have been from being a small town or because of Covid or maybe both, but still sad to see shuttered stores.

There were some interesting murals though.

We were told at the museum that this building was the inspiration for Coke Corner on Main Street at Disneyland. And we could totally see a connection, even to Casey's a bit on Main Street at MK.

On Friday hubs and I took a crazy Adventure. We were supposed to be in WDW but of course that did happen. But we still wanted to go somewhere so we have been talking about going to Kansas City for awhile, we wanted to see some stuff related to the Disney's including a stop in Marceline and of course eat Kansas City BBQ. So I planned a short trip for us to leave this Monday but as we thought about it more and with rising cases in many places we weren't totally comfortable going away for several nights. BUT we still wanted to do something, so our crazy idea was to just drive down to Marceline Missouri and visit the Walt Disney Hometown Museum and drive around the town. We figured our inside contact would be the museum and gas stations in which we could (and did) wear masks. And we could pack our our meals in our cooler. What's the crazy part....well it is about a 7 hour drive away and we planned to go there and come back in the same day! And that's just what we did and it was totally worth the long drive.

The museum was fantastic and had information on the whole family, some park stuff, and since it was in the old Santa Fe train station some train stuff. There were a decent amount of people at the museum but it wasn't packed and everyone respected social distancing. Here are a few pictures from the museum.

The desk had Walt Disney's initials carved on it.

Looking out at the train platform.

Midget Autopia had been an attraction at Disneyland and when it was removed Walt & Roy donated it to their hometown where it did operate for awhile but has been removed. They are running a campaign to refurbish it.

The painting was done by Marc Davis. The bench was one that people could sign at the D23 Expo, they had ones from 2017 and 2019. We tried to find our signature since we knew we had signed in both years but alas we couldn't find it.

Many items in the museum had been donated by Ruth (the Disney brother's sister) including letters from Walt, Roy, and their parents. It was so interesting reading the ones that they had on display. Apparently she kept all the letters and the museum has them all. I think it would be awesome if the museum put them in a book, I would buy it.

This is a mural done to represent the Dreaming Tree from the Disney farm in which Walt said he spent a lot of time under and spent his time dreaming. Notice some hidden Mickeys.

Oh what a fun trip... we are itching to go places too... so going up north tomorrow and Tuesday... less cases up there... and some casino's and nature.... just something to get out of this house!

I would have been coming home from my MN trip today... STUPID VIRUS!

Still crossing my fingers and toes that my 50th bday trip is going to happen.

Have a great day!

Good Morning... Happy Sunday!

Making a new version of bread today... this one adds a cup of oatmeal to the normal ingredient... I'll be interesting to see how we feel about it!

Big win today.... my pants were getting to big and I've been wearing a belt... so I decided to try on a skort that was previously too tight for me, and they fit! Not complaining about that!

Awesome about the pants & skort! Keep up the good work. Let us know how the bread turns out.

A few more pictures around the town and back to the museum.

The post office is the only federal building named in after Walt Disney, so there was a dedication plaque. We also got our postcards marked with a special stamp there. The guy working at the post office was very friendly which was nice because our guy at home is kind of mean and scary.

A gazebo in the park. There was a gazebo in town square of Disneyland's Main Street because Walt remembered it from here but it was removed before or shortly after the park opened. There is a gazebo in the town square of Disneyland Paris.

Back to the museum to pick up our car.

Oh this is the area where they want to put the Midget Autopia track and WDI has worked with the museum to help them paved the layout of the original track layout here.

Then we drove out to the Disney farm and we were able to walk out to the barn and we could have seen the Dreaming tree but it recent succumbed to a storm and is no more . But an offspring of it has been planted in the area.

We also drove to the elementary school named in honor of Walt Disney. He donated the flag pole from the Squaw Valley Olympics which he & the studio had a hand in orchestrating. There are murals inside the elementary school done by Disney artists which would have been cool to see but it looked like summer school was in session and we didn't want to be the creepers asking to tour a school with kids there.

We were able to go into the barn and we had been told (and there was a sign there) that we could sign inside. This time we took pictures so if we go back we can find it! We spent some time on a bench and it was cool thinking that I was in a area where little Walt laughed and played and used those memories to build up so much of what I love today. I might have teared up a little. After the farm we had to head out and start the drive home. Like I said it was totally worth the long drive to get a little taste of Disney and Disney History.

It was fun and even though it was only one day it felt a lot longer! Probably because of the drive. We are headed into Minnesota today, we are going to the Arboretum today when B is done with work. And trying a new restaurant (in the patio area) we've seen for my birthday today.

Your up north trip sounds nice, have fun! And I hope your 50th trip happens since you couldn't do the MN knitting trip.

Post thyroid-loss change #172 - my skin now burns under gel lamps. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I DIY myself mostly and then go maybe twice a year, but I have to put on sunscreen beforehand and apply aloe afterward. Otherwise I get nice tiny blisters on my skin afterwards. Toes I do at home and just do two regular coats of nail polish, put on sunscreen, and then do a top coat of gel. They usually last me a month and get through the pool, ocean, etc. For Manis, I usually get a mani before vacations twice a year or DIY a light color with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel and touch up during vacation. At home, I'll do the same thing with the regular mail polish and the gel top coat with the sunscreen.

I have no idea why no longer having a thyroid has done such weird things to my body.

I have an odd question for those of you who buy the Disney Plus. The answer is probably no, but do you know if you can buy (rent) an occasional show (i.e., such as Hamilton)? Or, do you have to pay the monthly subscription which includes all their programs (most of which I have no interest in)?
You could do the free trial and then cancel but I find it worth the money.

You can always do it for a month and then cancel. I did that for Starz because they had one show and a couple of movies that I wanted to watch, but not enough to keep it long term. It's not like you have to keep renewing or have to do the entire year subscription.

I heard that Disney+ is no longer doing the free trial thing. I think they changed it with the announcement of Hamilton coming to the service.

@MinnieM123 you really should try Disney+ for a month. They're increasing their National Geographic content

It was fun, if you ever find yourself in that area it is worth a visit.
@ajrwdwgirl , I went back to the actual church building for the first time this morning.
Every other pew is blocked. No one can sit by anyone they did not arrive with. We now have 3 morning services instead of the previous 2. It keeps the number of people in any one worship service to a small manageable amount.
All very safe.
What's your church doing?
