My parents are interesting people. I still live with them, in spite of being 25 (long story). Anyway, we had dial up until 2009. Now, we have all kinds of technology. High speed internet, five Amazon Echos, they both have iPads, smart lights, smart TVs, a smart garage door opener...and getting them to use anything besides the iPads and the Echos is a pain. My dad would still flip off the lights even though they were on the Echos...I'm like, you're the one who bought these! They are generally clueless about using the smart TV. I have finally gotten my mom introduced to it somewhat, but it I left it on an app instead of on the TV, they'd get so mad because they didn't know how to change it back...even when I explained that you just pressed the giant button on the remote that says TV. They have Bluetooth in their cars...I had to pair their phones.

So the fact that I can get my m to use a streaming service at all is amazing. 😂
Wow with all of that stuff it is like living at the end of the Space Mountain Ride before you get the the shop. :D I think I'd be confused with some of that stuff. My mom and dad have Bluetooth in their cars too, but not me as I am a new driver so they don't feel safe with me having it. They would rather have me pull over and call them if I needed them. I don't know what I'd do without the high speed internet and my phone is well my everything. :)

I didn't either when I was your age. I got the fancy shmancy stuff when I was 23 and bought my own car. I'd tried it out as I'd rented cars before (you can rent cars when you're 21, with an underage driver fee) and when I drove my parents' cars on occasion. Didn't exactly stop me from putting the phone on speaker and talking to them...fyi, do what your parents say. Do not be like me in that respect. 🙄

Oh dear. My first phone was a flip phone. And we had dial up and landlines until 2009 when I got to high school. Before that, you couldn't talk on the phone and be on the internet at the same time. Oh, and I didn't have a smartphone either for a long time. No no no. I finally got a phone with an actual data plan my last year of college, and only because we'd gone to Disneyland, where there was no Wifi in the parks, and my dad never made me remove the data plan, and then I started paying my own cell phone bill shortly after that anyway.

But enough of my horror stories, or else @Goofyernmost will start talking about how he had to walk ten miles uphill in the snow to get to school.

Oh yeah I listen to my parents if I want to drive at all. :)

I have a iPhone 7 Plus and am very happy with that even though I know there are better models out there.

BTW, thanks for chatting with me. I wanted to jump in the Chit Chat thread but thought no one would chat with the new person so when I saw your post and I could relate to it I jumped on the chance. So thank you.

You're welcome. I was a bit older than you are now when I joined and wish this thread existed back then. Feel free to jump in whenever. We're very nice here. Just watch out for @Mr Ferret 88 . He broke the lock on his cage recently and we haven't gotten the replacement yet.

You are still very young though. Thanks so much. You are very nice. I will watch out so as if he doesn't bite. :)

Working from home update since the end of March

saved hundreds in gas and tolls.
saved about 4,000 miles. I still have 16500 on my one year old car (June 1st was the birthday)
probably the only person losing weight working from home

and most important saved from insanity due to bridge construction and going to work.

Nope, rode on a bus, or may parents took me until I had a car. No ten miles, uphill in both directions. Just because @figmentfan423 likes to believe that I had to write book reports on slate does not make it so. I do remember some paper that had chunks of wood stuck in it though. Also phones developed very quickly. It was less then 30 years ago that people started the cell phone thing, no internet, much less WiFi and all phones were connected directly to a wire. You had to stay in one spot to talk, plus in Vermont it took until the mid-60's before they had push button phones. It might be why those of us with some miles on us find it humorous how many people complain about finding spot where they can't get a signal.
