Yah, I also have zero desire to see Cats in a movie. In the mid-90s, I saw it at the Winter Garden Theater on Broadway. It was a major, live entertainment experience for me. The theater, itself, was decked out in these amazing sets, that I can't even begin to describe. The costumes and makeup were so creative. The actors gave excellent performances.

A movie wouldn't be able to capture the above -- it would just be a movie (of a show). Right, @BuddyThomas ?!

I saw it at The Winter Garden too in the 80’s. I ended up seeing it multiple times because out of town guests always wanted to see it, so I was the tour guide. I was overdosed on it.

Wow, those are some awful reviews! I personally didn’t think that the musical would transfer well to film. A big waste of money on Universal’s part.

I think the worst part is that the movie was obviously rushed.
Every single shot of the cockroaches show that the CGI was unfinished.
The mouses and roaches looked like they were low poly PS2 game models with a face texture plastered.

I heard that there were some of the employees who also said the movie was rushed and effects unfinished (expected to be released next year but moved to the same time slot as Star Wars).

Yep, that was the end of the season. It was announced (today I think) that the next season will be next fall.
