And I didn't want to tarnish that post with "meh" news, but this restaurant job has been rough for B. He is still working six days a week, and this week he did an 18 hour day and then a 13 hour day in a row (only getting paid for 8 each day.) And then his first paycheck bounced. Yes, really. That hasn't been resolved yet. On top of that, the owner is pretty much nuts - abusive, firing staff left and right (almost daily) and then expecting the salaried workers to make up for it. (I am old and I will not feel bad about yelling at an employee if they did something completely out of bounds - it's a no snowflake zone, but this guy is seriously abusive. It's taking a toll.)

On a hopeful note, a large venue in the area just fired a certain manager. That job is right in B's wheelhouse, and several people who work there contacted him about it right away. He's already sent a resume. We'll see.
I'm so glad the new store is going well, but so sorry to hear about the restaurant job not being great! You guys deserve so much better! Do you know the people with the large venue? Would that be a better fit?

So my daughter was all sad today when she came home. One of her friends just got a new puppy a month or two ago...she's been asking for one and was so so excited to finally get one. She would show everyone pictures and videos. I guess sometime yesterday, her mom was taking the puppy out for a walk and a big dog attacked it and killed it. From the sounds of it, I think it was at least quick...he grabbed it by the neck and shook it. But her friend is absolutely devastated. The puppy was only a few months old and she hadn't had it for more than a month or two. I asked E if the big dog had been loose and she said no, he was on one of those reel leashes, where you can decide how far to let it out. But I have to say, if that's the case, that owner should be held liable since he/she let the dog have enough lead to attack. And if the dog attacked out of nothing, with the owner there, I wonder if the dog has been trained that way. It seems fishy to me. But that poor little dog, and E's poor heartbroken friend, losing her puppy that way. I hope she didn't witness it herself. I just don't know how something like that happens!

That is so sad and upsetting. I cannot believe that. The other owner should be held 100% liable. Actually I think that in the US for a case like this, animal control would be called? Wouldn't the dog the perpetrated the attack be taken in and put down? Or does that only happen when a person is attacked? Just horrific. That girl must be so devastated. I am getting angrier as I think about this, so I need to stop typing.

The nature of my job means that sometimes, I have long periods where nothing comes in, or I'm doing something fairly mindless (like copying and pasting). Audiobooks come in handy for these situations. Plus with having migraines, audiobooks are a godsend because I can often listen to a book when I can't do much else. About half of the books I've "read" were actually audiobooks. They count.
I enjoy reading books with paper pages when I have the time and I'm not the biggest fan of audio books.

My 2019 calendar I have displayed in my house states that Veterans Day is Monday Nov. 11th.
Halfway thru the first sentence of this post I paused and entered "Veterans Day" in the Google search engine and it also states Mon. Nov. 11th.
So how come my town's Public Works Dept. is observing it today? Everyone in my neighborhood has their cans out for our usual Tues. morning pick up. None of us were "in the know". So I called the appropriate Public Works phone number at 1:15pm and it went immediately to a recording saying they are closed today for the holiday.
It's election day and most government offices are closed

I rarely read "real" books. If I do, it's usually one that I own or that I can't get from the e library. I'm admittedly terrible at remembering to return books to the library. But the e library does it for me. I have a Kindle Paperwhite. It's great. I can take it in the pool, I can read with the lights off, and it takes up very little space.

Gawd my biggest pet peeve in life is "being left in the dark", a.k.a. not being communicated with. If it happens in real life, I approach the situation and try to get whatever is not communicating with me to do so in a formal manner. But at work, I can bring up the issue countless times but nothing gets taken cared of. And get this, one of our actual work motto is to communicate...

Man it really just...

As I said before, I've voted by mail recently....maybe 2 years ago is when I started that. Yet all the other years of my adult life I went out on election Day and voted in the voting booth. Even if the election fell on a school work day (which it almost always did/does) I just went before work or after work. I don't think the entire town government has to shut down. From the time I would arrive to the voting location to the time I got back in my car...well that typically took between 8 and 10 minutes.

I've come back to this post after searching for the hours for voting in NJ.
Polls open at 6am and close at 8pm.

Having election day off is in quite a few government workers contracts, in some places schools are closed because they are used for voting

It would be IMPOSSIBLE for the sanitation workers to collect our garbage AND vote. There is only time for one or the other :p:rolleyes:
Do your sanitation workers work for the township? Maybe that was why they were off? By us, the garbage collectors are all private. There was collection today. By me if there is a holiday and garbage isn’t collected, they come the next day. I also think it is ridiculous for them to have the day off. Dh voted after work. I went with my oldest to vote today. It was her first time.

Congrats to your "oldest" who is a first time voter. 🇺🇸

Yes, in my town the sanitation workers are part of the township workforce. Not private.
