And I didn't want to tarnish that post with "meh" news, but this restaurant job has been rough for B. He is still working six days a week, and this week he did an 18 hour day and then a 13 hour day in a row (only getting paid for 8 each day.) And then his first paycheck bounced. Yes, really. That hasn't been resolved yet. On top of that, the owner is pretty much nuts - abusive, firing staff left and right (almost daily) and then expecting the salaried workers to make up for it. (I am old and I will not feel bad about yelling at an employee if they did something completely out of bounds - it's a no snowflake zone, but this guy is seriously abusive. It's taking a toll.)

On a hopeful note, a large venue in the area just fired a certain manager. That job is right in B's wheelhouse, and several people who work there contacted him about it right away. He's already sent a resume. We'll see.

Great news about your stores but such a bummer about B and his job. I can't believe (yet sadly do) that his first check bounced. I hope that gets resolved or better yet I hope that other job pans out for him.

Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Some people in Southeast Wisconsin were not lucky yesterday. There was 8,800 people customers of a utility company affected. People affected were as south east far as Racine, and Kenosha and as north as Port Washington.

I was thankful not affected. The suburb where I had my dental work was affected, but thankfully not the dental building.

I think we topped at 19,000 without power. The major culprit was pear trees. They were planted years ago in Northern IL near power lines as they are dwarf trees and would stay below the power line height and not interfere. Ha! Given the climate change and the vast amount of water we've been receiving they grew a bit more than they had in the past. They still had their leaves and pears, heavy snow weight just was more than the lines could take. This is odd to get such a heavy, wet snow in October coupled with wet snow.
Still we felt blessed that our power stayed on.

Busy day/week/month ahead, but wanted to mention:

The new location of the old store finally took off last month. We went from being about 25% down from the year before in August and September (which was already down from the previous year) to up an amazing 50% from the previous year in October (after we hung the temporary banner pending "real" sign installation.)

This did not affect the other location, which was also up around 50% from the previous year. (Was last October really bad? LOL.)

Not counting chickens, sometimes there is a temporary interest in a new place that will not sustain over time. But I am very relieved that we weren't down again, and that things seem to be clicking. Part of the increase (about 20% at one store and 10% at the other) was one guy from Mexico who comes once a year at different times and loads up to sell them there. But we are definitely seeing an influx of new faces at the new location, and seeing more mainstream and younger-skewing SKU's moving, which was lacking at the previous spot.

It's really good. (No jinx!!)

The official grand opening with ribbon cutting, city officials, etc. is 11/22, and then Black Friday is a week later. We have a lot to get done to spruce and fill things up by then, so I'm busy busy!

Phew! That is awesome news.

I hope that works. Check bounces and the hours...no! Glad he has a lead for something better as the current doesn't have any promise of doable. Pixie Dust for him and added to my prayers for a good outcome. {{{HUGS}}}

This going back to standard time thing is not working out for me, I'm getting up when I would normally so 1 hour before I want to and I'm staying up later as in 11pm EST. I need to move to Florida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From what I read, as usual, Florida is that Uncle we never talk about. Some are ignoring the stay on DST bill that passed, and some are following it. All I see is mass confusion and people throwing everything out of synchronization. Georgia will be on Standard Time, western Florida (the panhandle) is in the central time zone. And if you are going to change why not change it to actual standard time that the world would recognize. Almost everyone uses Standard Time. There is no need for DST at anytime. No matter where you set your clock there will never be any gain of actual daylight hours. It will just fall an hour different.

The whole idea of daylight savings is ridiculous anyway. The only reason why the public wants it now is because it extends the daylight later at night to presumably have more outside activity, but, everyone is sitting inside playing with their electronic devices, getting that glowing, handsome tan via LED lighting. Just think Drive In movies could be a thing again and the movie would be able to start an hour earlier. Then we might be able to get home from a double feature sometime before 2am.

The only 2 movies that have been as good as the book imho are
The green mile
And
Thw Shawshank redemption.

A lot of his books are like this with the movies. Arguably Pet Cemetery was equally as good as the book. The Shining as well, although that's because Jack Nicholson is amazing. The Running Man was a completely different story almost, but both were good. I think Stephen King just writes in a way that is easily translated to screenplay

I am going to bed an hour earlier and waking up earlier. Technically that is ok for me since I teach my Chinese students early in the morning. They do not observe daylight savings so they are 13 hours ahead. I am now booking 5 am classes. I am done by 8 am now. I cannot be booked after 8 am anymore. China made a new rule that they no longer want children taking online classes after 9pm there time.
