Well things have been interesting for my family. I know I mentioned my DD was being sought by a large firm since early last spring as she will graduate as an Engineer in the Computer Science field. I think the last I left off she had turned them down due to timing and also held out for more money. Entry level is generally 6 figures so she wasn't going to leave the University she worked until she was more comfy with the salary and benefit.

They approached her again, she countered and they accepted her counter offer. It took 6 weeks to compile all of the background info, formal education, every past employer verification. With the security clearance she needed she could likely work in the White House with a lesser clearance. She bought a 2020 Subaru Forester for cash with her signing bonus. Blue like she wanted and a huge space for her hopefully Pup, she plans to move closer to her office by Spring. Her first new car.

Any who she has been there about a month now and is loving it. The guy she shares a space with is a big Disney fan also but he has 7 computers on his Desk, she only has 4. Today her boss dumped another monitor on her desk that is a touch screen as she is building some APPs for them and her first APP from scratch launched today.

My little girls first hard hat for site visits. She will also travel quite a bit from one side of the country to the other, she looks forward to it. Young only once.

That is so sad and upsetting. I cannot believe that. The other owner should be held 100% liable. Actually I think that in the US for a case like this, animal control would be called? Wouldn't the dog the perpetrated the attack be taken in and put down? Or does that only happen when a person is attacked? Just horrific. That girl must be so devastated. I am getting angrier as I think about this, so I need to stop typing.
That's what I'm wondering. I don't know what the law here is, but even if they do put the dog down, which I feel they should, that doesn't bring the girl's puppy back. And I wonder if they will get another one or if this ruined it for them. But the fact that it was a bigger dog that attacked means it wasn't a puppy, so the owner had to know their dog and know that it was aggressive. Why in the world would they give him enough slack that he could even come close to another person or dog? That's what makes me wonder if the dog was trained for it, like for dog fighting or something. It can't be the first time the dog has ever been out, and I can't believe a normally well-socialized dog would just suddenly attack one day for no reason. I've been looking for news articles to read what actually happened, but haven't found anything so far. But yes, it makes me angry and so so sad. I just can't wrap my head around it!! I have so many questions.

I rarely read "real" books. If I do, it's usually one that I own or that I can't get from the e library. I'm admittedly terrible at remembering to return books to the library. But the e library does it for me. I have a Kindle Paperwhite. It's great. I can take it in the pool, I can read with the lights off, and it takes up very little space.
I've thought of getting an e-reader, but I would miss the feel of the book, the smell of the paper...and I read a lot in the bath, so I'd be afraid to take an electronic device in water. The idea of having a whole bunch of books in a lightweight device is tempting, but I'm not altogether sold.

Congrats to her!! What kind of apps does she build, if you can tell me? My daughter has thought about doing that. She is only 13, but she loves computer programming and design, and she is very artistic and creative. She isn't sure what she wants to do when she's older, but she knows she "wants to help people, and be creative." So she's thought about things like designing products or apps for people with disorders, disabilities, illnesses....something where she gets to use her creativity to help people.

As I said before, I've voted by mail recently....maybe 2 years ago is when I started that. Yet all the other years of my adult life I went out on election Day and voted in the voting booth. Even if the election fell on a school work day (which it almost always did/does) I just went before work or after work. I don't think the entire town government has to shut down. From the time I would arrive to the voting location to the time I got back in my car...well that typically took between 8 and 10 minutes.

I've come back to this post after searching for the hours for voting in NJ.
Polls open at 6am and close at 8pm.

I always had to work, too, so I'd generally get to the polls around 6:45 PM. (Our polls close at 8:00 PM.) Up here in my state, the only law we have stipulates that employers should give time off so that people can vote, but it is expected that the employees will still work for the remainder of the day. Where I worked, no one took advantage of that (at least for the less busy local elections) -- people generally went before or after work. There are some jobs, however, that may not fall within those general guidelines, so those people take advantage of the law, to leave work.

As a side note, it also depends upon what election we're talking about. Yesterday in my area, we just had local elections which are always light. In and out of there in 5 minutes. However, in larger elections like a presidential one, there are lines and the waits can be much longer.

(At one point in my life, I lived in a section of Boston, and there were tons of voters in each district that it was not unusual to have a 3-hour wait. So you can see in those situations, that people who were working and also had commuting times on top of that, really did need the state law to allow them to leave work early, or come in later, so that they could exercise their Constitutional right to vote.)

*waves Hi*

I am going to sleep earlier, not playing online as long but have yet to fall asleep with my tablet in my lap yet. Unfortunately I'm still waking up an hour early.
Waves hi back and congrats to your dd, she deserves it for all the hard work she's done over the years. That being said she need to take her mom on a girls trip for backing her all the way

That's really awesome for her! And getting a disney fan for a desk mate to boot... what more could you ask for... 7 moniters is ridiculous.... I see some people with 3 or 4 here... I can only deal with one at a time. I guess I'm oldschool!

Subaru's have a good reputation for lasting a long time... I'm sure she's loving it!
