Ok, who here had Costa Rica eliminating jolly ol' England before they even meet on the pitch, and possibly winning the group that houses 3 past WC winners outright?
I wonder if someone is gonna ask Rooney 'what's it like to finally score a goal at the WC' now? (shades of Jerry Rice being asked 'what's it like to be the oldest player to score a touchdown' when he lost the big game in the 'other football').
Picked up an official FIFA 2014 WC ball (along with for some reason keeper gloves that I'll never use) to really get in the spirit. When I got home my dog sat, thinking the ball was for her. No fido, it isn't. I haven't played my 2006 WC computer game for this yet... there's nothing like winning the WC with sides like Tahiti, Cape Verde, and Uzbekistan...
French goal...
Another French goal...
Two questions for the masses here:
What percentage of the people in the U.S. who are following this are following not the US squad, but the team from their birth/heritage? At least half?
Swiss goal. Or not.
Is the WC the 'best' football on the planet quality wise? Or is that to be found in the Premier League or one of the other European Leagues?
French PK. No goal. Missed the rebound shot too.
It's three.
I think this is the only sporting event that I actually look forward to (perhaps the olympics as well), and yet I might watch about 15 minutes of Premier League a year (and absolutely no MLS).
Conga line in the stands. To me it's part of what makes this and the olympics enjoyable. Seeing people from all over the world enjoy the success of their team/athletes (is this the 'national team sport of choice' of 29 of the 32 particpants)?
Halftime. Time to check in to the Spirit thread...
