The 60th Anniversary of Disneyland: The Reality of it All

This concerns me greatly. Guess we'll see.

Me too.
WDI doesn't really do "subtle" easter eggs anymore.
Remember all the "subtle" Disney characters added to Small World?

Also, I'd say the entire idea that the "reality" of the Matterhorn now being a mountain that's inside Disneyland, (where the Snowman could go shopping for merch) is a heck of a lot different from the previous themed reality, where the mountain is off in Alps, is a pretty big change to the story.

Wanting to be all cutesy-cutesy and sticking a bunch of fanservice in there is not a good reason to break the ride's fourth wall.

Man, these all look like good additions.
Other than the breakfast versions of lunch food, are they all permanent additions? It looks like they could/should be.

The problem is a widespread confusion of detail and self reference. Instead of renderings things that require real world knowledge the focus has shifted to exciting narrowing increased fans with cursory "trivia" knowledge.

It certainly has, and what gets me is how proud and excited they seem to be about it. If these are supposed to be little subtle reference for guests to find, why is Irvine even talking about them before the ride has opened?

The new Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion queue is the most egregious example of this kind of thinking.
These people are supposed to be telling new and interesting stories and using the medium of theme parks to tell them, not showing off their Mark Davis fanfiction.
It's like WDI exclusively hires people out of Deviantart.

Kim Irvine oversaw the Club 33 redo, where Darth Vader lurks in a Princess and the Frog painting and Tinker Bell is randomly trapped in a lantern in the courtyard.

So, that's not encouraging.

She also realized Walt and Mary Blair's "vision" of "it's a small world" being a game of hide and seek.* Hiding, to use the term loosely, unrelated items seems to be her whole schtick, along with having a famous mother.

*A game of hide and seek is how Disney originally described the then soon to open "it's a small world" at Hong Kong Disneyland. That blurb was removed when Disney was lying about the plans for Disneyland.

Steve Davison has mentioned a "mega fireball" will be in Celebrate! on his FB fan page yesterday:

Mega is the right word for it -- this thing shoots higher than the Fun Wheel!! (photo by @dprincipe3 on Twitter)

Some new fountains have popped up on the water's edge of the viewing area (photos below are from @WoC91Elefante on Twitter)

And finally, the "hidden" fountains in the planters have been upgraded to larger size, with bigger LED rings:

So, this 5 month refurb of the Matterhorn was mostly to install new Yeti scene stuff, but not address the ride track or vehicles, aside from replacing the plastic components in the sleds? It seems like a really weird, perhaps uncharacteristic, waste of money on their part. I mean, if the scenes turn out good, that's awesome. But it was basically a perfect Disney attraction, it's just that the new sleds hurt people's butts and they wanted some pads on the seats.

Exactly. I dislike the new sleds. They're less spacious with no padding. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to make the sleds less wide with no padding should be fired.

So has anyone heard yet of Disney or someone doing a live stream of WOC, PTN and Forever? Don't know if Disney would do it for the previews on Wednesday and Thursday? Or the public debut on Friday?

I usually hate when Disney plops decor in the parks for celebrations or whatever, but I guess I don't mind that stuff. The 60th sign in front of the train station looks like the Pringle guy, but I like the colors and at least the Castle is less pink as a result.
