Thanksgiving Traditions?

I was just sitting here looking forward to Thanksgiving and thinking about the little traditions that our family has. Not with food but the little family things that you always do..

We always wathced Friends at 8:00 when it was still on and so looked forward to the new Thanksgiving show now that we can't do that we watch all of the Thanksgiving shows on DVD. It is also a tradition to watch Christmas Vacation for the first time of the year that night. The kids used to always make everyone Indian and Pilgrim hats to wear out of construction paper too but they are too old for that now..:(

It is the little things that I love the most about the holidays!

Anybody else have any traditions to share?

And Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Well, while we have no definite traditions other than the feast itself, we tend to go out to either the movies or our friend's bonfire. It seems like we might be doing the bonfire this year.

Before we eat, we go around the table with each person saying what they are most thankful for. It helps to remind us all of the reason that we are gathered together for the day.

I love the Charlie Brown specials!:) I used to always watch those when I was little.

We would watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, do housework for hours, and then the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special.

Not much, but then again, there isn't much one can do where I live.

We go to the casino...:lookaroun

If only I were joking...but that's where we spend out Thanksgiving. We get to eat an all you can eat buffet and no one had to cook and no one has to clean up. It's the perfect tradition.

While in the past it was just family and football, this year will be a little different. My DW will be spending it with her brother who will be heading to Iraq on Friday morning, and this year, I thought that one of our younger Officers might want to spend this Thanksgiving with his wife and brand new baby, so I will be working my shift plus his shift for Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and if you are traveling, be safe.

We celebrate it when it's supposed to be celebrated... In October! :D

The year we were living in Toronto, we ended up having two Thanksgivings.

The one tradition we have, which I didn't really know about, concerns a certain platter. My mother always served the turkey on this particular platter for as long as I could remember. One year (after my daughter was born, and we had our own home) she asked if I would like it, since it went well with my good china. I said, "Sure."

Well, little did I know that it meant I would be responsible for all of the holiday dinners from that point forward.

I wish my parents were still alive to be coming for Thanksgiving this year. They were both alive when I started posting here, eight years ago.

It will just be my husband, son, and I, as my daughter can't get away this year. But I'll still use the platter.

I'm pretty sure that's cheating!

Silly question: If President Obama symbolically pardons the turkey, shouldn't all of the rest of you honour that by not eating its brethren? :p

Of course, given that he sends the "extra" turkeys to the local food bank, I'm guessing the symbolism is pretty much lost at that point anyway! :lookaroun

^ In that case, thanks to dual citizenship and relatives on both sides of the border, I've been cheating at Thanksgiving(s) for many a year.
