What about something like the study of sound (Acoustics)? You could tie in all manner of things with this like music, various sound waves, animal communication sound waves, etc. Heck in current day there'd even be a Marvel tie in with Songbird that Bob would like.
That sounds really fun and unique. For the current day tie in we could also use Soul, Encanto, and Coco all films where sound plays an important role. The 2000s era could be something awful like the Radio Disney Sound Lab for rhat synergy and hippness that Eisner loved at the end.

My only concern for culture is it may be too similar to the concepts in World Showcase where as sound can be played with in such a way to distinguish it from culture and have it be an opposite of Imagination.

Also with the tidbit from @JokersWild it seems like utilizing the Living Seas plot is the best play for whatever direction we go in rather it be sound, geology, or weather

Yeah, I think I could have said "Art" as a better choice. I can understand that World Showcase is supposed to be showing culture (which it certainly does), but it doesn't hit on all cultural parts equally. For example, religion is only found in things like the Day of the Dead in Mexico, a church building in Norway, how the Morocco pavilion is run, etc. I know if Israel would have gotten its pavilion that religion would have had more of a focus. Themes like literature and "classical musical" are also things that seem rather limited in World Showcase.

I feel like sound can be played with enough to work, but I worry it's still a little too similar to Imagination, which is about the five senses anyway.
I agree with this to some extent, especially some of the more recent Imagination rides. Also, how would a deaf person experience a Sound pavilion? That would be an interesting challenge. I think the (former) Rock n Roller Coaster at Paris sort of had an interesting take on being a sound wave (even if it could have been executed in a better way or through something other than a high-speed coaster).

I didn't even know that the senses were part of the original Imagination ride tbh 😅
That is a good point though!

Another good point if we focus on sound people that are hearing impaired would have difficulty there, just think about Sounds Dangerous without hearing it's literally a black room.

I think the reason religion wasn't really touched on is how touchy a subject it is, and how some may find it taboo for Disney to tackle, but with that said an Art pavilion would be a cool concept. Music, Literature, Painting, Fashion could all come together in an art pavilion distinct enough from the aspects of World Showcase. The next bridge to cross would be if this would be too similar to opening day Imagination?

So Weather doesn’t have much overlap with EPCOT attractions. Maybe just a little with the desert part of Horizons and something in the Land. Geology only has minimal overlap with Universe of Energy.

A couple other ideas: Commerce and Games (sort of a predecessor of Play Pavilion).

Wouldn't a commerce pavilion be a mall? 😅

I'm drawing a blank on what else could be there.

We could also have a zoology/evolution pavilion, but I'm honestly not huge into this idea as we likely wouldn't be able to it justice the way Animal Kingdom does it. Would also have immense pressure from @PerGron to deliver  Evolution is also a taboo subject that Disney probably wouldn't want to target in the 80's.

I'm drawing a blank at other possible pavilions I feel like we've listed almost every possible theme that is unique from the existing pavilions 🥴

I think a games pavilion could be interesting. We wouldn’t do it like Play Pavilion (EG just an IP madhouse), but instead focus on the history of games and entertainment, since a lot of these early Epcot pavilions focused on an aspect of human history. For instance, Spaceship Earth is the history of communication.

We could showcase games from ancient cultures, board games, card games, mind games (think charades, etc.), and video games.

It fits in with the edutainment theme of 80s Epcot and could be updated throughout time as video game technology advanced. We could end up including VR games and more.

The more I think about this idea the more I like it.

Okay I just remembered I’m PM and should probably set deadlines LOL.

I think we should probably finish brainstorming by Sunday night so we can finish voting on/choosing a final theme by Monday. That leaves us about 4 and a half days to work on our submission.

We should aim to have most of the content completed by about noon on Friday, I think, that way we can proofread and edit our content before submitting.

That sound good to everyone?

I have reservations with the game route mainly because we saw Tron pavilion in Stanza 3, and then we had the whole entire challenge where everyone made video game lands. Then I think someone used Tron a third time. I think if we go the games route we'll really have to make it special to stick out. This also isn't to say I don't like the idea btw, I actually enjoy it just scared it would get us points knocked off due to seeing video games so often this season.

I think my three favorite ideas so far are weather/The Skies, Geology/The Earth?, and games.
My favorites right now are:
  1. Weather/Sky
  2. Geology
  3. Art

Who knows maybe we can reach a conscious by tonight or Sunday night when it comes to pavilions 🤞 . After all the more time we have to work on the pavilion the better :)

I was thinking that if we focused more on physical games like chess, etc we could stand out more, but I don’t know. Ultimately the entire team decides which idea we do.

Well, if you are talking after 1960s. But the types of things used in bartering and money, shift from agriculture to industry to blue collar jobs, how people make a living in different parts of the world, the advent of online shopping.

It’s like we can just walk into other people’s rooms without knocking. Or using a door. Like Vision.
When Tegan helps us in our secrect plan to take the most posts title, don't worry it's a slow burn process we'll catch up ;)

Ooooh that's interesting and intriguing!

I'm leaning towards Sky even if it's sort of obvious as a theme, it's obvious for a REASON
I agree Sky are a very compelling theme. Aviation and weather two elements of the sky lend itself well to attractions maybe even the moving of whatever the flying ride at Magic Kingdom to Epcot (Dreamflight, If You Had Wings, etc) into a more complex and fleshed out attraction with a sponsor. A walkthrough gallery with a small theater on the history of aviation to compliment the flying ride. The Skies Above being the weather based animatronic show pitched by @Brer Panther . It would be the perfect sparring partner with the Land containing the same amount of attractions at opening day.

In 1996 we could take a cue from @TheSquirrel bringing in Ludwig Von Drake as a guide on signage in the aviation gallery and host in the History of Aviation film after the success of Circle of Life: An Enviromental Fable over at the Land. This could end with a flying montage from various Disney films set to an awe inspiring score! A possible "hipping" of The Skies Above animatronic show could happen in 2000 for the Millennium Celebration. Then in 2004 fans are outraged as the flight omnimover shuts down as a new take on Soarin comes online in 2005 with a new airline sponsorship giving us a budget to film new international footage.

For 2020 given the 'unique' approach taken by Chapek with attractions it seems like something IP based should come in to replace either the History of Aviation walkthrough/theater, Skies Above animatronic show, or both. Alternatively we could install a parachute drop tower adjacent to the pavilion which takes the same who cares about sightlines approach of today's Epcot. Disney has been pushing the Rocketeer lately as a franchise with a new Disney Junior show airing and a sequel in the works for Disney+.

Now for all of these ideas in a list form :D

Opening in 80's:
  • Dreamflight/If You Had Wings successor
  • History of Aviation Walkthrough & Theater Film
  • The Skies Above - weather based animatronic show ala Kitchen Cabaret, Carousel of Progress, etc.
1996 Change
  • History of Aviation Walkthrough & Theater Film with a Ludwig Von Drake tie in
2000 Change
  • Hipper The Skies Above
2004/5 Change
  • Dreamflight/If You Had Wings successor closes
    • Soarin replaces
2020s
  • Replacement of either History of Aviation Walkthrough & Theater Film or The Skies Above or both with an IP attraction
    • Possibly The Rocketeer?
  • Parachute Drop Tower Outside?
  • Rocketeer attraction?
Obviously this is still a brainstorm, but the idea really excited me 😅
