Might as well put this anecdote here as it's an example of Sacramento's slipping control...

I went down to my regular barbershop today to get a haircut to look good for the kids at Christmas dinner and my NYE festivities. I had texted my longtime barber for an appointment this morning, but I was surprised when I showed up that it was not in Speakeasy Mode like it was earlier in the year during the first lockdown.

His shop was just open as per normal and not covered in black plastic tarps, you walked in the front door, and they were doing booming business. I've noticed other nail salons and ladies beauty parlors doing the same thing, but I thought because his shop had previously operated in Speakeasy Mode that's what he'd be doing. Nope.

I have mixed emotions about this. I am happy to see all these small businesses operating normally and in open defiance of arbitrary rules by politicians who don't follow the rules they impose on the little people. But I was sad because it was more fun in Speakeasy Mode and they'd give you a beer or a shot of whiskey when they operated in secret behind darkened windows and locked doors.

Really a shame. The more people ignore the guidelines, the longer Disneyland will be closed.

My favorite Uncle who lives in Cali has covid and is pretty much on his death bed right now. He is in a medically induced coma and is on a ventilator and it does not look like he is going to make it in the next day or so. He has 4 daughters. So please treat covid seriously and be safe and wear your masks. I agree business should be open and be socially distanced. but don't take this disease as a joke. He had it for a week and is now fighting for his life.

Very sorry to hear about your uncle. I agree we need to take it seriously.

Thats easy. It’s spreads through the air... unless you’re in the air which negates the virus due to the air X2 rule which states a virus cannot survive above 10,000 feet or if you are a Republican.

Unless you re flying Spirit Airlines. Then all bets are off.
I think this perfectly sums up why people struggle so much with the “science” surrounding Covid restrictions, the science makes no sense.

When cases went up a few months ago in NV they announced they were closing all the local bars (which would have made sense) unless they also served food... because somehow sitting at a bar with just a beer in front of you is dangerous but sitting in the exact same seat in the exact same bar with a beer AND a hot dog is somehow safe. It also didn’t apply to casinos, because somehow sitting in a casino bar is safe but sitting at a nearly identical local bar isn’t.

For every business that’s been closed there’s another business that’s allowed to stay open that exposes people in nearly identical ways. That’s not science, it’s not even common sense.

It absolutely makes sense. You just have to take the time to read up on it, and of course be willing to understand it.

If you've even been in a position of authority, this makes absolute perfect sense. You have to make decisions based on intent and a calculated percent of compliance, and know that you will never get 100% compliance.

What you are seeing is the intent of shutting down socializations and reducing overall interactions between people.

It would be easy to say that any place that serves food has to be shut down, but we all realize that some people depend on prepared food for sustenance. It is obviously more important to make sure people get fed and stay alive than to reduce infections.

That some business owners have decided to violate their social contract and subvert the intent of the public health mandates isn't a sign that the mandates are flawed, but rather a sign that selfish people exist.

How people use places differs based on their offerings. Hanging out at a bar is typically different than getting a meal. The reason for being there and how one interacts changes. It’s not you sitting alone that it is dangerous, it is you milling around for hours with a bunch of others that increases the chance for spread. Some people may eat a meal like that but it is not the norm. The whole point of letting bars switch to food service is to give business owners options and an opportunity to stay open, that thing that is supposedly important.

I am so sorry to hear this, my heart goes out to your and your family during this difficult time. Although I personally am not religious I will be keeping your family in my thoughts if that is okay with you, I am wishing for the best for your family. 💚

I went to Brea Mall Friday Night, can someone tell me what is "Essential" at Game Stop, As Seen on TV, Spencer's Gifts, etc ?

And the Food Court was open, though the Table and Chairs were covered up.

The rules are arbitrary and don't make sense.

Government is picking Winners and Losers without any Science and Data guiding them.

And of course, St. Vincent's sits there, being used as a TV set, instead of being used as a Surge Hospital, even though it was one for half the year.

Decided to visit the Brea mall and yes it was very busy and yes there are no tables inside but...

the tables are outside in the parking structure!

Maybe we should consider converting Pixar Pals and Mickey and Friends into a outdoor dining area for Downtown Disney 🤔

My uncle died last week after a nearly year long battle with cancer. Our family feels like his outcome would have been different if he could have gotten the care he needed... If the medical world was not prioritizing covid and treating everything else as a lower priority.

My wife works in a senior living facility where they have been implementing the most strict safety measures since March to prevent the spread of covid. In the last two weeks more than half of the residents have contracted covid.

I can't help but be angry for all that we've sacrificed only to have it all be for nothing. This is a lost battle.
