Not a surprise, but the
Regional Stay-At-Home-Order where no one actually stays at home and most non-corporate restaurants and salons ignore the fake mandates has been extended until at least January 19th.
ICU availability in SoCal is currently 10.9% available ICU beds. In Orange County proper it's at 8.9%.
In other Covid news, I ordered one of those free saliva tests that Orange County is giving out! It was incredibly simple; I ordered it online on Sunday night, and it showed up in my mailbox today. I registered the barcode online, spit in the little tube (and at first it looks like you need to spit a LOT, but it's actually just a few drops because the vial is actually very shallow), and then I boxed it up in the FedEx container included. I am going to drop it off at a FedEx mailbox in a couple hours when I go to visit my butcher for a NYE order. It gets sent overnight to Aliso Viejo, and I should have the results later tomorrow morning.
And it's free! And fun! And socially acceptable to spit just this once!
If you are in Orange County, try this fun free service! It couldn't be easier.

Dr. Mark Ghaly announced that "current orders will remain until ICU capacity projections are above or equal to 15%."

California has extended regional stay-at-home orders for Southern California for at least three weeks, it was announced Tuesday during a livestream COVID-19 update from the state’s Health and Human Services Secretary, Dr. Mark Ghaly.
“Many of you are tired,” Ghaly acknowledged, but said “Do as much as you can. Celebrate virtually.”
The extended stay-at-home order means that restaurants in Southern California will continue to offer only takeout and delivery, and hair and nail salons will remain closed. Stores will remain open under capacity restrictions. Productions may continue, but the Los Angeles Dept. of Public Health has asked productions to strongly consider pausing during the COVID-19 surge in the county.
"Productions" in this case are TV and movie productions, because as we all know Hollywood is Essential Critical Infrastructure. Your barber and nail salon may have to pretend they're not open, but our nation's celebrities can get coiffed openly by professional hair stylists since they are providing Essential Critical Infrastructure via vapid daytime TV and bad Hallmark Channel movies. And Tom Cruise needs someone to yell at.
