[...]Launched last fall and based on actual NASA astronaut training techniques, Mission: SPACE rockets Epcot guests on an unforgettable journey to Mars, from thunderous liftoff to touchdown on the Red Planet so prominent in the news this week.[...]
There's one for lack of motivation to search harder.

Coming off Mission Space last week was like a chapter from Goldilocks and the Three Bears:

Son: The ride was too hard.
Friend: The ride was too soft.
Me: The ride was just right.

There are clearly many people who are otherwise eligible to ride coasters who get disoriented or otherwise come off Mission: Space feeling somewhat queasy or ill. After a couple times, they won't go back.

Others who went on the ride shortly after it opened swear it has been toned down and are disappointed they don't get that feeling they once had. I would expect they will continue to ride, but it won't be a reason to go to EPCOT if they weren't otherwise going.

So maybe there is less demand than expected, but if there are people in EPCOT, without a fast pass you can still expect to wait 30 minutes or more (at least that's what I saw), so I don't see a problem with it being a poor performer.

I ride it and enjoy it but know of many more that dont ride than do because of the fear of getting sick or worse. Yes there seems to hardly ever be a line and its a shame because its such a excelent experience. However...mabee they could have two versions, one full on and one toned way down. The ride would be great for others and chrildren if it wasnt for the "weightlessness" that makes you sick. It would be nice if they could make 1 or 2 of the units where you could feel alittle movement and get the full show. It would be ,as Epcot was concieved, to be a educational experience for school kids.

Uhhh thats just promotional garbage from Disney...Str8fan said he had quotes from real astronauts which I will patiently wait for.
They would not be legally allowed to put down that it was based on real NASA training equipment if it wasn't.

Star Tours is based on military training equipment. What does what a rides based on have to do with anything? I never said M:S wasnt based on training equipment.

*sigh* Fine. What do they use the training equipment for in relation to astronauts?

[Edit] Well since you don't seem too keen on answering I'll do it for you. They use the training equipment to accurately prepare astronauts for the sensations of spaceflight. That is what the disney ride is heavily based on. Not to mention, I'd like to see evidence of the last time you were in space to even have an argument to MAKE this argument.

I'm sure you have some quotes that prove M:S is not like space travel?

NASA sez- "We were totally telling WDI a bunch of lies. Mission: SPACE is nothing like space travel. Real space flight includes much more UFOs. And aliens....don't forget the aliens. The only element of truth in this ride is Gary Sinese. He's an alien. (We had to get him out of our hair. You know how them Roswell folk are.)

There are plenty of real quotes from real astronauts who have praised M:S for being the closest thing to real space flight on earth. If you want to see them then search for them yourself. I don't think anyone else needs to do that for you. This is your battle not ours.

And yet when I say something everyone is like "GO FIND SOME QUOTES" I cant stand this you know what I am done with this.

Here you go, direct from a press release.....
Pioneering astronauts like Buzz Aldrin and Rhea Seddon have also taken their turn on the ride, comparing it to actual space travel.

"It was a really good combination of reality and looking ahead to what things might be like," said Seddon, a former NASA astronaut who flew three shuttle missions. "I knew intellectually it was a centrifuge and that's how they were generating the feeling, but it doesn't feel like a centrifuge."

The difference is that the things we say are facts or opinions based on facts that evidence exists to support. The things you say are opinions disguised as facts that have no actual facts to back them up.

Its important to understand that even someones opinion must be based on some amount of fact to make it valid. You can't say the sky is green and defend it by claiming it is your opinion and you are entitled to have one.

Yes I can.

The sky is green. My parents said so.

HA! So there!

The problem is that it does not realistically simulate space travel. No sensations of weightlessness and poor ride video make for a poor attraction.

Funny, I think alot of that statement pretty much sums up star tours IMO. Minus the weightlessness part since star tours doesn't try to approximate the effect. I also don't know what real space travel is like, but I wouldn't say that star tours approximates it any better than M:S.

Notice how it said "I'm done with this board" and now it says "I'm done with this."?

Heres another one to make you happy. From a local 6 news report

Astronaut Jim Lovell said the ride feels a lot like an actual space flight.

"It's the best, closest simulation you can get to the real thing," Lovell said.
