Surge Pricing Holding Up (Semi) Annual Increase ...

It used to be when we went to WDW it would be 'What's New' now it's 'What's no longer there'.

Truer words never spoken

I already posted about the price history that can be found on a page at "Walt Dated World," but I really encourage young and old alike to visit that site and look around at the attractions, exhibits, and experiences that used to exist at Walt Disney World. Some really were striking.

http://waltdatedworld.bravepages.com/index.htm

That is the home page. It makes me sentimental, yes, but also amazed at just what they accomplished -- all the detail -- in so many early attractions and parts of the resort.

Discovery Island (the real island on Bay Lake, not the section of AK) was amazing. I always wanted to go, but my parents never really got us there. But just look at what they did with a thing that you would access only by boat. How cool was that?

And it also reminded me of BOTH of the CBJ specials (the Christmas one AND the summer vacation one)... and the full dinner show at the Diamond Horseshoe... which came free with admission (plus normal dinner cost, of course), no $100 upcharge like at the new Villains show.

The real canoes and Mike Fink Keel Boats that were always cool to me have not run at WDW in years, although the canoes continue to be run at DL.

River Country was really cool and took advantage of the lake. But I liked the Tom Sawyer feel of it.

The Polynesian used to have a water ski show, which was a very Florida thing (similar to at Cypress Gardens nearby), but fit the theme. It was free. And of course the Polynesian Luau was more authentic in the beginning.

And the original Hall of Presidents was much more about Lincoln's speech. And each major attraction had a full soundtrack album available, none of which featured a pop teen idol rendition of its main music added to sell it.

And the shops pages in this website reminded me of the amazingly unique shops we used to have. The Christmas shop in Liberty Square used to be a real antique shop that carried hard-to-find Americana items.

And I used to love coming out of the CBJ with Biff and his friends "following" me into the Mile Long Bar, which was a good place for a burger, separated from Peco's Bill's before they made it all into one. The sung and moved around and talked to the patrons of the restaurant as well as those coming out of the show.

In EPCOT I miss the Communicore exhibits and of course Imagination.

I could go on, but I will stop here. Just suffice it to say, if you want to remember, or if you are a newbie and want to know what we are talking about with the attention to detail that we miss, just take a look at the different pages on that site (or Google some of these things) and you will understand. Yes, things change and some improvements have happened, but the point here is that Walt Disney World used to be all about the details and was a place that truly transported you to a whole new world, a world that was perhaps still a fantasy, but a world that encouraged you to dream. People could come and just play, yes, but the level of detail helped also be truly inspirational for many of us.

Nope! You take this back. I am a good God fearing Evangelical Christian girl! Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse for me around here my trouble has doubled. You and @wm49rs say the *exact* same things. Ugh.

Another non-denial denial. How Nixonian of you. No wonder you're getting the SM overtime. But, hopefully the parks will pick up again soon, so your hours might do likewise....
@wm49rs Can we like, just be friends? I'm so tired of fighting with you.

I can't afford those ticket prices therefore I don't go.
Bingo! This is *exactly* my point. When everyone looked at the Super Bowl prices, the reaction across the board was "hey I can't afford it so I won't go." I didn't see a single person here trashing the NFL or the Superbowl or call them cold and evil and blah-blah-blah.

So, why isn't this same attitude applied to Disney?

Also, The LA Times just did an article on how Universal *quietly* raised ticket prices 20%, right before it opens the new Harry Potter attraction. But what stood out to me more than anything is the fans reactions -- they totally support it!
"I don't feel put off by the price," said Adrienne Aipia, a marketing manager from Los Angeles and organizer of a Harry Potter fan club called Dumbledore's Army. "With the expansion for Harry Potter comes significant costs."

If Disney had done the same thing, especially *quietly* -- the Disney fan community reaction would have been in a uproar, IMO.

Also, in part, I think the surge prices are in retaliation to employee wage increases. Walmart is doing the exact same thing by closing stores all over the country.

Seriously, can a mod just ban Siren already? It's getting to be insufferable.
Maybe I should ask the mod to ban you for that insufferable avatar. @wrm49rs, could it be one of your old toys?

Seriously though, it's the most horrific thing I have *ever* seen. He is scarier than both Stephen King's It and the new Doomsday
combined. Stephen King would make like over a billion dollars with this monkey -- all he has to do is hide it in the closet and when people come home and open the door -- boom! The monkey pops out in like 3D or something. It would be so epic.

This thread was already dead when I resurrected it from way back on page *six*. When I saw your nasty post, I did not return to this thread. And, guess what it died yet *again*. I found this thread on page *four* this time! I left, so you could have the floor, since you have so much to say. And, you did *nothing*. Healthy dialogue requires various viewpoints not just yours.

Anyway, just be the change that you wish to see -- I challenge you to contribute and post more and I promise I will avoid you like the plague. LOL. This is my final post in this thread, so it's all yours now.

Also, I just *love* Curious George and Boots, they are so cute. Just sayin...

I hate to state the obvious but your defence is that a Uni fan boy spouts the exact same pish as a Fhanboy for the rodent in defence of their corporation of choice.

Speaking as a non corporate hoe I fail to see the difference. Loyalists will be loyal regardless of what steaming turd is shoved under their noses.

@DisneyGentleman - I saw what you wrote in the other thread. I just want to say thank you, it means so much me.

@Phil12 - I saw your BB8 in the other thread, it's too cute, lol.

The reactions between the two fan communities are night and day. I don't see any histrionics and wild hysteria amongst the Universal fan community regarding this secret price surge. Honestly, if Disney did that, the fall out here would be insane. It's just an observation.

And, did you really just refer to yourself as a non corporate h**? LOL.

Is coercion a tactic that Disney teaches all of its social media employees?
LOL. I guess that does sound a bit extreme. I guess I am just worn -- two @wm49rs is way too much for me .

@marni1971 - I saw your post, but I think I did something to delete it. I don't know what I want to say to you yet -- anyway. Maybe later.

I suppose your managers didn't tell you there'd be pushback to someone online working for TWDC. Just keep thinking of that OT you're earning. That will salve things....

As to USH's price increase people generally don't get upset if the price increases include ADDED value (like a new land), The uproar about the WDW price increases is the price went up and things were taken AWAY!!!,

Also recall the biggest price increase in Disney history was when MDE kicked off the 'Disney Decade' as tickets were underpriced then and the additional revenue was used to expand and plus the parks. Unlike now where the price increases are being used to fund stock buybacks and ill advised foreign parks.

Well its marginally better than being in your shoes, I dont have a corporate pimp, like your good self for example, despite my punctuation failings.
And I suggest you need an appointment a specsavers to help with your observations.

Id like to add that the price hike at Universal was just a normal increase, this time it was ahead of Disney, we all expect that anyway. The real deal here is the surge aspect of it. They raised prices more, not to keep people away, but to nickel and dime the ones that would be there in super busy days.

I could have gotten behind the surge pricing if they lowered prices during slow periods. Instead, as Mr. Spirit predicted, current price was the baseline.

Only first time guests will think they are getting a value.

Which just happen to be about 300 days of the year, Surge pricing indeed what's next pricing based on the electric grid model your credit card (which you will be required to keep on file as a condition of admission) will be automatically charged a congestion upcharge price if the park gets busier than planned. That's where it looks like we are going these days.

Why am I in this basket and why is it getting so hot...

Pricing will be what the market will bear - so let's see if it holds up.
Heres where I disagree. People have a huge habit, especially in this country of over extending their credit. This will just make people spend more on their addiction.

The part about the first time guest is true though. They will always be more appealing to Disney than a seasoned visitor.
