Surge Pricing Holding Up (Semi) Annual Increase ...

OK where are the idiots that think the prices going up is a good thing? You know, the "higher prices will thin out crowds" people?

There haven't been less attractions open in DHS since it opened and it is more expensive than ever, yet the price is going up with not justification... fabulous job folks!

Also, expect electronic boards at all theme park (and eventually resort concierge desks) locales where admission media is sold so that that Disney can literally change prices easily from day to day ... just remember, no discounts in this model. That $100 a day EPCOT admission is the baseline ... it just may cost you $160 to get in on NYE and $118 on a Saturday during one of the multiple Food and Booze Fests.

Will it be a daily price or could they follow an Uber-like model on surge pricing where as the park fills up, they raise the admission price within the minute. So at 9am a walk-up ticket could $110, but at noon it could be $140.

It's not the number of guests it's the class of guests

Disney needs to start being more creative in price gouging.

How about charging admission to the new areas. Want to see Frozen ever after? It'll be an extra $40 on your pass. Stay for night shows? That's another $40. The new Star Wars area will be $100 on top of your already overpriced DHS pass, for now, to peek through a construction hole in the fence will be a $20 upcharge (if they ever start building it.)

I am a "higher prices will thin out crowds" person. I am not the first person in Economics history to feel confident in stating higher prices will reduce demand for a given product.

I am, however, missing the bridge connecting the idea of "higher prices will thin out crowds" with your thanking me for shutting down attractions and rides? That is equivalent to me saying 'where are all the people who want to keep prices exactly the same?' and then thanking them for the terrible weather on the week of my vacation. I would love to lower prices at WDW and have the crowd levels go down. Shuttering rides and attractions, and also cutting hours, is a ridiculous and awful thing.

Well economics aren't are more of a religion than a science. Higher prices will not keep people away, it will just keep prices high and make people borrow more money to come. They are raising prices and have been doing so for a very long time like clockwork. The only problem is that the changes they made were very lackluster and the stuff that will seem to be good is almost a decade away..

I personally have a hard time buying the thin out the crowd argument. Crowds are an issue because half of the studios are closed. Buildings in Epcot are closed, areas of animal kingdom are closed. If crowds are really the issue then open more attractions. Oh wait that cost them money.

Yet the just finished building poly dvc and are now building more WL dvc. If crowds are the issue why build more hotel rooms that will only crowd parks more

This is strictly about money. Just like when they raised AP rates 2x in 2015 and told us they gave us memory maker included now. Of course since I buy 4 APs for my family I just paid $600 for memory maker! And I don't even want it. Lol

Here are two questions: If you are at the resort and you buy your ticekts ,then the next day the price drops (non-peak) and you haven't used that ticket, are you entitled to a refund?
Will the prices change mid day? Can someone buy media at the "regular" price, and then two hours later their family shows up and pays regular plus x?

Prediction for the Magic Band phase n (if the H-1B1 visa programmers can figure out how to code it):
Attach Magic bands directly to guest's bank accounts.

I can only assume that the Sentinel's crack team of reports is hard at work on a story that'll spotlight the disparity between record profits, operational cuts, and price increases. Maybe Sandra will call up the Lifestyler-of-the-week for comment.

Don't worry Sandra will gush over the new demand based pricing system

Oh come now they havent even started charging for the toilets yet. And lets face it that is one place designed for tired pricing. You could even upsell on toilet paper, the softer the tissue the higher the cost and charge by the sheet. And of course all payments could be linked to your magic band. Though on reflection you would need to do some technica work on the ladies unless you ran an honesty system.

Good. Raise prices more. The parks are too crowded. They should raise them and raise them until they feel some resistance from the market.
In a way I understand what you mean. I work for a major hotel chain. We raise prices until guests stop booking. Then we pull back. Disney will do the same. I was there 2 weeks ago. Couldnt get on Dwarf ride in less than 2 hours. if you dont stay on property you cant fast pass that ride. the ones we could fastpass a week out we really didnt even need FP for in the end. But still this place is getting way expensive. 3.25 for a bottle of coke that was warm in less than an hour. UGH

I don't think NGE and MM+ is complicated at all....however...what Lee stated as a future option seems like it definitely would be, at least to me.
Not too over complicated in the back office, just a lot of coding.

The complicated part is at the customer side when the customer has the blank stare of ?

Many years ago when I would play Roller Coaster Tycoon I would charge ten cents for the bathroom. It was money making gold!!! Gold I tell ya! I was a trend setter.
