Good morning. I'm taking the cousins to Gatorland today. Should be a fun time.

It's probably also my last day babysitting them. Feels weird.

I don't know if you've followed them on the Discovery channel... I find them oddly fascinating. So structured... and all the kids are surprisingly normal.
No, we don't do cable. But I do know how expensive raising 2 kids is, - I can't imagine 17!

Just the laundry alone.....

Oh well...to quote Christian humorist Patsy Clairmont - "Normal is just a setting on your dryer" :D

Ooooh! Gatorland sounds like fun! Do you get to eat them there too?

Well, looks like I will not be on at all (unless at work) until I get back home, because I no longer have internet access. Just wanted to let you all know.

Hi all...Thanks for asking about Maggie and thanks for all the thoughts..:)

She is good..she needs to wear a brace on her left foot while she is sleeping only...they also want to send her to a Genetics Dr. so we can maybe get an idea of why she is so short..She is 30 inches and 26 lbs..she is geat weight wise but is off the charts in height..she should be between 32-34 inches they say.

They say even though she was so premature and only 10 inches should not matter now because of her age and her weight..so we shall see.

They said that they may want to try growth hormones which I will not do and it is my choice or she may just end up being petite...I really do not care whether she is small or not as long as she is great healtwise then I am fine..:)

So all in all everything was great..we were just there FOREVER..x-ray after x-ray,and then a bone scan..so one tired lil girl..:)

Thanks again for thinking of us..

That's good to hear Dana.

Actually we're having a break from the heat today - temps in the 80's & low humidity!

Party at my house!

Heh. It's only supposed to be in the mid-90's today.

I think I'll break out the parkas and mittens!

That's it? With heat and humidity, it probably will be over 100 today.

Are we discussing the family with 17 kids, all with J names?:lookaroun

Well, if it works for them... Makes more sense for me for homeschooling to be a viable option in larger families than ones with only children. I have a dear friend from college with five kids and she hopes to homeschool them through their elementary years. To a lesser degree than this family, they have the same kind of organizational routine to their day I must admit I envy. Plus they are part of a fairly large network of homeschooling families in their part of Ohio. To me they are a prime example of how homeschooling can and should work.

We have friends who home-school their 3 daughters, and are doing it quite sucessfully. She is a trained teacher too, which helps a lot, and they are also very involved with a group of home-schoolers. The kids swim competitively for the Y and are quite involved with Girl Scouts as well as church activities, so they are learning social skills too. If done right it can work very well, but too many parents don't know what they're doing *coughmysistercough and coughmypastorcough*

Even if I was a teacher, I think I'd still send my kids to school. Interacting with your peers is a huge part of growing up...

It's just not for me, I guess.
