Sum of All Thrills Closing?

Very true. If that coaster were to open in WDW it would be absolutely panned by critics. But as always, when things open overseas - the grass is always greener and all.

I have been, and am, very enthusiastic about Shanghai, but I really don't see the Tron coaster as anything special. And I came in with pretty low expectations. It's shorter than your average six flags coaster, and the theming isn't excellent enough to make up for that short time. The forward-leaning seats are neat, but any moreso than a standing coaster or Superman (laying on stomach)? The outdoor portion provides some nice movement in tomorrowland, but the ride itself, I think, was a missed opportunity. Of course I've yet to ride it in person, and so that might change my opinion a bit, but I can come to basic conclusions from the video.

I think a big reason it's being recieved positively is because it's opening alongside a bunch of other rides. The attention is divided. Complementing that is the fact that it provides a nice variation from everything else by being the most thrilling ride of the park, and also by providing a nice atmosphere for Tomorrowland.

Part of the reason "the grass is always greener" overseas is becuase they have less fans who follow a ride's construction every day for years. That WDW and DL fan behavior leads to more disappointment if the ride is underwhelming. Tron didn't have that same attention and buildup from most people on here, as, say, SDMT did in MK. Less buildup leads to less disappointment. All just my opinion, but I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

Hey folks,

I was looking at the website you go to after riding Sum of All Thrills that you use your card at http://games.mathmovesu.com/soat.html and noticed something interesting, look at the screen shot, it says the website can be used "until June 30, 2016" is this indirectly telling us something? Food for thought.View attachment 142581

Onto Sum of all Thrills... This was the opposite of a disappointment. It's really unique from everything else in Innoventions in that it's the only ride. Designing your own coaster is a cool experience. And finally, riding it... it's a very neat experience. Watching others ride is cool too. Many guests don't realize this exists, which is a good thing, because the lines have become longer each time I've gone. Last time I rode, I think it had a 40 minute line, which is long for something in Innoventions. Capacity is low, but it's one of those "hidden gems" for me in WDW. Much like the drawing classes in DHS were... before those went away.

It would really be a shame if this were to close (and it sounds like that's the case). When counting Epcot's rides, I would include this. It really is a full experience. A great one too. I'll miss it, that's for sure. Please don't go. Please stay.

Right but why would he have anything to do with Epcot? Didn't he retire years ago?

Yes, but I think Marni meant who has been trying to fix it over the last 10 years. Tony only retired 3 years ago. He has been a big advocate of fixing Imagination (a ride that would've been redone in 2014, but Frozenstrom stole its budget) for a while. Heck, he's retired, and he's still trying to get that ride fixed. I'm sure he's been involved with plenty of other parts of Epcot as well.

What's the future of Innoventions? The only good thing there is Colortopia.
And it is not even 1 year old. Does anyone know how long the PPG-Glidden contract is on the Colortopia exhibit? Even if it is a couple of years, that means Innoventions East will remain that long and we should see some new exhibits at some point. If The Sum of All Thrills does close soon, they had better have something else near by that can open this summer to pick up the lost guest capacity.

Tony is still active in imagineering he just isn't full time. He's more of a consultant.

Is that in the really retired but available for consultation or the more likely "Disney forced me out but is still paying me as a consultant for X number of months or years while having me do nothing ala Staggs"?

I don't know. The tombstones have limited time left though. And the sponsor I mentioned fell through for various reasons.
Martin-when we purchased the photo tiles, we were told that the plans at that time were to eventually move them to a permanent home elsewhere on property. Do you think they'll follow through with that, and if so, have you heard anything of where that might be?
I agree that they need to be moved; selfishly, I like the nostalgia from the memories of the trip we had that year and have enjoyed re-visiting the tiles. So, just curious if you have any insight into what might happen. Thanks!

We did the same thing and enjoy them when we go. Just don't like the location like most people.
Back in 2000, the package we got offered a 25$ gift card to planet Hollywood OR a tile. I think we made the right decision.

Sum of All Thrills isn't that great and all...but I do have some fond memories with family members on it. Oh well. Change has gotta come some time!
