Just read that double strollers are now $31 a day...IS THAT TRUE??? Does that seem ridiculous to anyone else?? I'm sure it was $10 a day last year for a double...Am i mistaken??

Ok. Wow! Are they raising prices of wheelchairs and evc's as well? I would think the wear and tear on the evc's would be higher than on those plastic strollers. There is no way I'd pay that, esp. for families who are at WDW for 7-14 days...yikes. I can see this becoming more of a pain in the neck on the buses...esp. at Pop and the Values.

ECV Rentals will be increasing to $45/day with a $20 refundable deposit in the parks, $100 refundable deposit at Downtown Disney.

Wheelchair rental prices will remain $10.

Nearly doubled in one year???

You can rent a car for less than $27 a day. I know complaining won't change anything but that just seems like a ridiculous increase.

Oh well...guess the kids will be doing more walking this year

Like I said in the other thread, the only reason I can see Disney doing this is that they are trying to eliminate the presence of the double strollers. The single rate seems still doable to me, but $27 a day x 5, 6 or whatever days - yikes.

As someone who likes and has used the double many times, this is a hard pill to swallow. Disney has to have a good reason, because families who enjoyed the service cannot be too happy about this one. I think there might be a few families that visit the parks on any given day. :lookaroun

I would tend to agree. It is really the only thing that makes sense at least. A few other possibilities along the same lines could be that their larger footprint is making storage a issue, or they require more frequent repairs (same wheels twice the weight), width issues in the smaller retail stores, or Disney simply wanting only one model to deal with which would again fall back to easier maintenance.

Bottom line when compared to the single strollers the double ones can really make a mess of things in a tight crowd or store. If that is indeed the issue the change would have probably come about to to guest feedback.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I think they should tack on an extra $20 deposit that you only get back if there's no blood on the front of the stroller at the end of the day. My ankles still hurt...

The huge price increase really does stink. Even though I have 2 small kids (3.5 and 18 months), I had no need to ever purchase a double stroller and at this point refuse to buy one just for a WDW vacation but at the same time also refuse to pay that price to rent a double which I had planned on if we go later this fall. My 3.5 old daughter has had no problem walking around when we take them to places for the day, like the zoo or a festival, but have not gone anywhere as large as WDW before and wanted the double stroller as a back up more than anything since it would be difficult for us to carry her, potentially across an entire park, to leave for the day. I don't understand why Disney would want to discontinue having the double stroller? We cant be the only family with 2 small children or what about families with twins?

You could use 2 single strollers (assuming you have a spouse/partner/politically correct term for "significant other"). I know it's a pain, but I have a feeling Disney prefers it.

I had 3 babies in my first 3 years of marriage (taking WDW trips all the while), and I became a sort of stroller conisseur, if you will. It was really more of an addiction (that I soon replaced with an obsession with WDW). Anyway, we always took our own stroller(s), because I do hate the Disney ones (but, of course, THAT is a topic for another thread). I did own a side-by-side for years and LOVED it, but it is very difficult in any tight spot (shops, crowds, etc).

My personal opinion is that 3 is a bit young to walk on their own very much at WDW, especially in DAK & EPCOT. And both 3y & 18 mos is too old to carry everywhere. But that's just me. Our first 3 girls are now 6, 8, & 9 and have had no problem with all the walking for the last several trips. There are some good tips on these boards for making sure your child is ready.

We also now have a 2 year old (yes, another girl). We will be taking our own thrift store stroller (complete with storage basket, sun visor, reclining feature, and beloved cup holders for baby, mom, & dad).

Just 1 more thought - have you considered a sit-n-stand stroller? They can be great for the 3 year old to jump on only when necessary. If you weren't looking to spend a lot, I'm sure you could find a good used one.

Ok I just called Disney and the cast member I just spoke to on the phone said that the Length-of-Stay rental is a one time fee for your lenth of stay. I asked him 3 or 4 times are you sure that it is only a one time fee for the your lenth of stay and he Assured me it is. If ture, it is not a bad deal.

Has anyone mentioned or noticed that they are now selling strollers at many WDW locations for about $40?

I wonder if they are simply trying to get out of the rental business all together.

It sounds like there might be a miscommunication on one end or the other. I've had quite a bit of direct experience with stroller rentals, and here's how the process works (at least, this is how it worked this past summer. I doubt that there have been significant changes).

Let's say a guest wanted to purchase a four-day Length of Stay (LOS) single stroller pass. The discounted LOS single rate is now $13/day. Thus, the guest would pay $52 all at once, then simply take their stoller tickets directly to the "stroller valet" at each park's rental location on each of the subsequent days.

Any better...or did I succeed in thoroughly confusing you? :D

Rental locations have offered umbrella strollers for sale for quite some time, long before the price increases were announced.

It specifically says in the announcement the length of stay fee is $27 PER DAY..the castmember must be confused....otherwise everyone would rent them for at least two days.

Well that's what I was told, I asked him over and over if he was sure that's the way it was and he said yes every time. So I call back today and got the same answer from a different cast member, if they are wrong then it looks like Disney needs to retrain. I guess I will find out next month.
