I always wonder why people refuse to accept that sometimes Disney does make changes to try and dissuade people from doing this or that.
Strollers "en masse" are problematic. They've tried making stroller parking lots in the parks and it's just not working. There are flat out too many, and it's really because guests use it as a convenience. If it was so badly needed by everyone - where were all the strollers in years past before they created the parking lots?
There were some, but there were not these massive amounts of them blocking the entrances to attractions.
Right now they have full stroller lots and they are still blocking the walkways. Something had to be done before it became an impossible problem.
Hi, I don't want to start an argument, I would just like to discuss this particular topic which you have brought up (and others as well). A lot of people compare "yesterday WDW" to "today's WDW" and say there weren't that many strollers back then, why are there so many now!?! This also leads some people to the conclusion that this generation is lazier, fatter, don't want our kids to walk... etc. (I'm not saying you said this but people in the past have)!
Here's my explanation on the "increased stroller usage" topic. WDW is getting bigger (nobody can argue that). In the past, people took smaller (shorter) vacations to a place like WDW (there wasn't that much to see). If I was going to the MK for only one day, would I bother with a stroller for my 5 year old - heck no! But would I bother with a stroller if I'm going to WDW for 10 days - yes, yes, and yes! People are taking longer vacations at WDW and children do not have the stamina to keep up.
"Yesterday WDW" didn't see the large numbers of young families that "today's WDW" sees. People waited until their kids were older. Disney has done a great job at marketing to the families with preschool aged children. There has been an attitude change as well. My parents left me home when I was 12 months old b/c florida/WDW was no place for a baby - last June I took my own 14 month old baby and had a wonderful time. With more younger children visiting the WDW resort you are going to see more strollers.
Strollers are becoming more convenient and better made. A lot of people wouldn't travel with their strollers in the past - they were just too bulky, big, and didn't fold/collapse well. Some of the new strollers out there amaze me at how small and light they are once folded! These smaller/convenient stollers are just easier to take on vacation, so why not!?!
So while increased stroller usage may be a thing of our generation, the nature of Disney in our generation has led to increased stroller usage!
