Stroller Rentals?

It is a 1 time fee for the length of your stay. You pay $27 x the number of days you want, and you pay that 1 time fee up front. You get a voucher for the number of days you bought.

It makes no sense for them to charge $31 for 1 day and $27 for as many as you want.

Single Stroller Rental

$15 per day, with no deposit

Length-of-Stay Single Stroller Rental

$13 per day

Double Stroller Rental

$31 per day, with no deposit

Length-of-Stay Double Stroller Rental

$27 per day

Word for word as defined in "The Hub" where Cast Members would be able check information.

"Length of Stay: For guests who require a stroller rental for multiple days, we offer a Length of Stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment transaction for as many days of rental that you will need. Upon visiting a Theme Park, simply show your receipt at the stroller rental location and you will be directed through the queue with little or no wait."

So to future clarify here is an example.

Double Stroller Rental

$31 per day, with no deposit

You rent a double Stroller for 5 days total for your stay. You would pay a one time fee of $155.00. (31 x 5= 155)

So you are paying a one time fee that is correct..but you are also paying the total cost of having many x number of days of your stay.

Correct, except it's $27 x 5, not $31 x 5.

Anyone see "Jon & Kate plus 8" last night? It was their trip to WDW episode.

You should have seen the number of doublewides they had. Pre-taped, so they probably beat the price increase.

Hope they didn't mow down any of the anti-stroller crowd. :fork:

I work at Downtown Disney and you should also know that they must have a $100 refundable deposit in addition to the standard charges due to the fact that they are not a gated attraction. Strollers and wheelchairs tend to wonder off often at DTD.

It is cheaper to rent 2 single strollers and than 1 double stroller. This must be a way to get less double strollers in the park. Why not just eliminate them if there is such a fuss?

What Disney is doing, it trying to help control the population! If they raise the prices maybe that means people will stop having so many kids!

I like the fact that Disney is bumping up the prices on all of those. Have you see the HUGE parking lot that Fantasyland has become! Also with the price increase on ECV's maybe that will help from having EVERYONE getting them...I know this topic has been done to death and will help in the locking of this thread, but WALK PEOPLE!!!!! God gave you feet for a reason, someone created ECV's to help people become more lazy! I know that there are people that need ECV's due to health reasons, but 9 out of 10 people I see in the parks have ECV's cause they just don't want to walk. How do i know that???? Watch them park it and walk onto attractions when they don't have a line or park it and walk to the bathroom...if you have problems walking then fine, but if you just want to A. get in the front of the line faster or B. just want to put your 3 kids on it with you and store everything on it WALK!

When I was 16, I ended up spending half of my Disney trip in a wheelchair. I've had multiple knee surgeries, and as I was walking through Epcot, I pinched a nerve in my knee and couldn't feel my leg. I almost collapsed. The feeling came back, but I spent the rest of the trip in a wheelchair to limit the time I spent on my knee and to prevent a reoccurence until I could see my doctor.

But, if you saw me in the park, I appeared to walk fine.

I know that people totally abuse the ability to have a rental wheelchair or ECV, but just b/c you see someone who can walk fine doesn't mean they don't have a legit problem.

Thread lock is coming, I'm sure, but I'm going to try anyways. My father has 4 blocked artieries. He has had two bypass operations, but another would be too risky. He can walk, but if he walks too much, too far, he could have a heart attack and die. Or he can use a wheelchair or ECV. If you see him in the park, he will park his chair, get up and walk to the restaurant, ride or show, just as fast as any healthy adult. But if he walks around the whole park, he will pass out (I know because I saw it happen at Epcot)...or perhaps worse. So you're right -- he's one of the 9 out of 10 you see using a chair because he doesn't want to walk. But he doesn't want to walk because he likes to remain conscious.

That's my sense too. A $1-$2 increase would just be standard profit taking. A 50% increase sounds similar to the CRT/Akershus price bumps, and the watering down of DDP in 2008---ways to reduce the purchase rate of things Disney has decided are "too popular."

Families that need them will still buy them, or start bringing their own from home (and, those tend to be smaller.) Families that were getting them purely as a convenience may well cut back on usage.

IIRC, the strollers were the only items that had ridiculously high increases. ECVs went up $10 from $35 to $45, and manual wheelchairs are unchanged.

Will it cut down on stroller rentals? Yes. Will it cut down on stroller usage? No. Will more people bring their own? Yes. Will trams, trains, etc, bog down more? Probably. Will the stroller parking lots go away? No, they'll just be a lot less blue.

I always wonder why people refuse to accept that sometimes Disney does make changes to try and dissuade people from doing this or that.

Strollers "en masse" are problematic. They've tried making stroller parking lots in the parks and it's just not working. There are flat out too many, and it's really because guests use it as a convenience. If it was so badly needed by everyone - where were all the strollers in years past before they created the parking lots?

There were some, but there were not these massive amounts of them blocking the entrances to attractions.

Right now they have full stroller lots and they are still blocking the walkways. Something had to be done before it became an impossible problem.

I think you'll be surprised at the number of people who don't bring their own.

You may be right. But have you checked out the stroller threads at the (lots of smileys) board? There's a lot of people saying they will be bringing their own. Oh, and there's also a SSE-similar email campaign in the works.

I think it will cut back on the number of strollers. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Merf is right. The whole stroller things is out of hand, and its because people are using them as a convinance. People who would never use a stroller for the older child in their every day lives are renting them at Disney. It is out of control.

If you have small children chances are you own a stroller that you use on a regular basis that you will now bring with you on your trip to Disney instead of renting one on-site. If your kid is older, and you have gotten ride of your stroller, so you were going to rent one instead, chances are you won't be buying another one for them to use at Disney.

This is just my opinion of course, but a kid 5 or older needs to walk. Are they going to get tired? Of course they are. Walk slower, enjoy some of the shows where they can sit for a while and take them back to the room for a nap if you need to. They aren't going to fall apart because they had to walk from Main Street to Fantasyland.

You guys on the other side of this issue are making valid points.

Just want to clarify one thing - I think few people on my side of this issue ever argued that we need them. I've maintained all along that it is just a convenience, and a pretty darn good one at that. Can you blame us for being upset that we have to give up a convenience that we like and found immensely helpful?

We stopped bringing our own stroller when the one we brought was stolen. The Disney strollers are larger and more comfortable for the kids to sleep in if needed.

If Fantasyland is too crowded with stollers then Disney needs to create a stoller parking lot and enforce the use of it. If stollers are left other places then the CMs should move them to the parking lot. Inform the guests that there is a parking lot and must be used. I wouldn't mind leaving the stroller in one area and carry the kids around Fantasyland as it isn't too big of an area. They could use the old lagoon area for the parking lot.
