Stroller Rentals?

If Fantasyland is too crowded with stollers then Disney needs to create a stoller parking lot and enforce the use of it. If stollers are left other places then the CMs should move them to the parking lot. Inform the guests that there is a parking lot and must be used. I wouldn't mind leaving the stroller in one area and carry the kids around Fantasyland as it isn't too big of an area. They could use the old lagoon area for the parking lot.

Why implement a rational solution that solves the problem when you can just jack up the price more than double?

We stopped bringing our own stroller when the one we brought was stolen. The Disney strollers are larger and more comfortable for the kids to sleep in if needed.

They have a stroller parking lot in the MK and they enforce it and staff it. They have CMs whose only job is to organize, and round up strollers. They have tried dealing with this issue for the conviance of their guests, but its getting out of hand.

Will it cut down on stroller usage? No. Will more people bring their own? Yes.
I think there are two cases. Kids truly young enough to *need* a stroller---those will come from home. But, they'll likely be the $20 umbrellas (easily the most common "from home" stroller you see) and they take up A LOT less room than the Disney models. The second set are poeple with older kids who *could* walk the parks, but would be slow/tire more quickly. Those folks are likely to just make do. Either way, the sheer space taken up by strollers gets smaller.

To an economist, that's the only rational solution. ;)

The more people in the parks, the more people there are to rent strollers or bring their own. I too wish there was one central stroller parking area in Fantasyland. I know there is the area by the old skyway, but they also have stoller parking outside each of the ride areas. It does get congested when people try to unload their stoller at the entrance to a ride.

The one thing I don't understand is why so many people worry about who rents the strollers. If the parent doesn't mind pushing the stroller why worry about it? Sure, most of us couldn't have gotten by (or would have wanted to) with this when we were a kid, but its also hard to eyeball a child's age and ability. My daughter is in 2nd grade and is about the size of most of the kids in the K. classes. My nephew is in preschool and is easily the same size of my daughter or bigger.

still, I wouldn't pay those prices if I needed a double. I'd either buy two single strollers at WDW and pitch them afterwards or rent two singles. The one plus the rental strollers have are the shades on top.

I've said this before, but just a reminder -

There really is no comparison between bringing your own stroller and renting the WDW model (single or double). The WDW model is far superior. BTW - many major theme parks rent out the same model; I know the Cedar Fair parks do.

It's lighter, easier to push, more room, better shade, better brakes. You don't have to lug it in and out of the parks, trams, ferries, monorails. To get on an in-park train, just leave your stroller, pull out the slip, hop off at another stop, grab another stroller, put your slip in, and you're off.

There really is no comparison. When you say "you'll just have to bring your own," you're really saying "you will have a significantly diminished service."

And finally, what's the space savings between a non-WDW and the WDW model (single or double)? Maybe a few cubic inches? I guarantee you nobody is going to be folding up their stroller at the stroller parking lot outside an attraction.

I just don't think you guys are going to be seeing the space savings you think you will.

Can you tell I really like those WDW strollers?

I'm not sure.. are you kidding? Is your post meant to be humorous? (sorry if I'm not catching on here).

Of course. You get to decide if the preferable service is worth the new price. Some will, some will not. If it weren't a preferable service, no one would have rented them at $10 a day, either.

I totally get where you are coming from, 'cause I've got two used-to-be-in-stroller kids, and the rental strollers are wonderful compared to the umbrellas. But, there really is no explanation for such a radical price increase other than "we want fewer of them in the parks."

As I said before, some families that really need a stroller will bring one---an umbrella stroller is easily several inches narrower than a rental stroller. I know, because I've used them both. Multiply that several inches by the dozens and dozens of strollers lined up in the parking area, and you've got a real savings. Some families that use them purely for convenience will now abandon them---even more space savings.

Who said it was life or death? I asked you a simple question.

Sorry, not trying to blow you off.

My post essentially is serious. Although I am trying to keep things somewhat lighthearted and non-confrontational to avoid another thread lock.

I am hopeful we can have a discussion on this topic without flaming out.

If you're serious about this statement: There really is no comparison between bringing your own stroller and renting the WDW model (single or double). The WDW model is far superior.

.. then I disagree.

Yeah, after re-reading what I wrote, that may have been a bit too much on the hyperbole side.

I know there are better models out there, obviously. Let me re-write what you quoted:

"There is no comparison, in my opinion, between using a fold-up banana stroller (single or double) and using the WDW models. To me, renting in the park is a much easier overall experience, and the WDW models work very well for park touring."

Is that more realistic?

The nice thing about having your own stroller though is that you aren't lugging your sleeping kids back to the car/bus/monorail at the end of the night because you can't take WDW strollers out.

Good point. I can easily see why someone with a child under 2 would want to bring their own.

Good point. I can easily see why someone with a child under 2 would want to bring their own.

We used our own stroller(s) for my brother when he was growing up... only within the past 3 years have we been using the rental strollers. He's old enough now to forget about using one, but the WDW rental stroller was not convenient at all when he was under 3 years old and wanted to take naps and such... especially when he was about a year old. Very uncomfortable for a child that barely walks, etc.

So maybe the choice of bringing your own stroller or renting the WDW one is all based on family/preference of child. There really is no bottom line to say which is better. True, the WDW ones are easy to push and are lightweight, but for the sake of comfort and having 'your own' stroller that you are familiar with (to fit baby bags, tote bags, pouches for water bottles, baby bottles, etc), it is sometimes good for families to take their own.

Superiority of a stroller is solely based on the opinion of the family.

 Thats my thesis.

We just returned from WDW on saturday and we had planned on using a double stroller the entire week but the price increase made that out of the question. To my suprise my two boys (3 and 6) did absolutely GREAT and walked the entire time. Even through the PPP last friday night (of course they fell asleep on the bus that night!)

just my .02

Yes... better.

I think there is an advantage to both. When my whole family went in '03, (13 of us) 4 of us were aged 6 or younger. We got the 3 boys (6,4 and 3) into one of the double strollers (one sat where the feet goes) with no problem. We brought our full stroller for the 15 month old (with a canopy on top and it reclined so she could nap) and it all worked out great. We have since brought our own for trips with our family of four. The stroller we brought was a Combi and we bought it at a garage sale. We paid $10, it has a canopy, it reclines, has a net underneath it, and folds to the size of an umbrella stroller. This was far more desirable to renting a stroller for 2 reasons: it cost us much less than a rental in the parks and our daughter (who was 3 and 4 for our trips in '05 and '06, when we brought the stroller) didn't have to be taken out when we walked out to the trams at the end of a busy day.

For us, the cost issue made rental in the parks a non-issue. We were simply not willing to rent something that we could bring in ourselves. Now, even if we had children of the age for a stroller, we would definately NOT rent, due to the price increase. Also, our own stroller was cleaner than the rentals.

I think it all depends on what works best for your family.
