Staying in parks after closing

Does anyone know how long the CM's will let you wander the park after the official closing time? It would be a great chance to get pictures without people in the shot once most of the people have left.

There are several "photographers" on the boards who stay after closing to get some of the amazing shots they post here.

I've never done it myself, but I gather from what others have posted that you should be as far to the "back" of the park as you wish to be (for example Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Dumbo) at closing and then slowly make your way to the front of the park, taking photos as you go.

Once you move "forward" toward the front, the CM's will not allow you to go back.

I also gather that it really depends on the CM as to whether you are rushed or not. Since they clean literally the entire park every night, I would imagine someone will be there for most of the night, so they don't mind if you take your time - but you do have to leave eventually!

it also depends on if it's a normal night or if there is a party or hard ticket event going on. If there is a party or hard ticket event and you arent' going to it you can expect to be shown the door quicker than a normal night.

I have stayed after closing at Epcot and DHS. The lines where bad for the buses back to my resort so I walked around and had no problems with the CM's as they closed up. At least the busses were still up and running an hour after closing.

Sometimes you can hang in the shops for quite some time in MK after the park is closed, or at least after it's supposed to be closed?

If you stay on the areas by the gates (Main Street USA, Hollywood Boulevard, Future World and Discovery Island) you will be able to stick around for at least another hour after the park closes. It is a fantastic experience.

You are welcome! It is indeed a nice picture opportunity. I think it is the only possible time of the day on which you can get a picture with the castle without someone else randomly showing up on it. :)

In addition to all of this, Im pretty sure you can make ADR's close to closing time, which by the time you eat it would be well past closing.

From experience, the Disney folks will let you hang around anywhere from an hour to even longer after "official" park closing. We've done this at both Epcot and Magic Kingdom a number of times and havent encountered any problems. Epcot is especially generous because of the restaurants and people finishing their meals in World Showcase. Makes for a very nice walk around the lagoon as you exit. :)

I should add that once IllumiNations begins, Future World is closed off pretty well in order to funnel guests toward the exit, so if you want to hang around in Future World after 9PM, you'll have to be there before RoE starts.

Back in the days when they had the "blowoff" on the Inferno Barge after the park closed, I was easily able to stay in the park for about 90 minutes after the park closing time, waiting to video the blowoff. Before then, I circled World Showcase very slowly, taking photos along the way. I watched the blowoff from the UK bridge, and then exited out to the Boardwalk through the IG.

(As a side note, I don't believe the blowoff happens anymore, as they've worked it into the final blast of fire in Chaos)

In the Magic Kingdom, the "Kiss Goodnight" at the Castle is often scheduled to run as late as 90 minutes after closing time...

Main Street stays open for an hour after official closing time at MK. All the shops are crowded with people on their way out of the park. The Kiss Goodnight is 30 minutes after closing time, and is a really magical little light show. We stuck around last week until after the Kiss Goodnight, and got a few late night photo pass shots. It's really worth doing if you get the chance!

I haven't actually tried to stay in the parks after closing, but due to gift-buying etc. I've had to be in the MS gift shops for another 20 minutes or so, so there's your confirmation that those are still open after closing. That sounds like a fun idea though, and a great photo opp!

As long as there is money possibly spent in their shop Disney will not kick you out. There are times that people are shopping 1.5 hours after closing.

In January when I was there for work my company rented out DHS for the night. First of all, it was like a dream for me. Second of all, being there with people who don't really care kills some magic. Anyway I think me and my buddy were literally the last ones out and I was going crazy taken photos of things without anybody there. It was the best. We have always get good pics when we book ADR for before the official opening times of the park. Nobody is there and it is light out so it allows for better pics

This is SO my favorite trick when making ADR's... I feel like I'm getting more time because everything's closed anyway.
