Status of the flu in DW

Think for yourselfer
Am I not exposed to the exact same germs that every other person on earth is? Have I never been exposed to people that have an illness which I could contract? Is my health is only a result of the people who go to CVS and get a free flu shot or any other vaccination? Apologies If i do not subscribe to that belief. If the only "disease" I have is what you labl as "social paracitism", I can live with that. And I dont need a vaccination for it

It’s not a matter of beliefs. Which is what antivaxxers, Aka social pariahs, Would have these arguments boil down to. It’s a matter of denial of facts. Vaccines have all but wiped out many deadly diseases. That’s an irrefutable fact. I have a newborn at home. He hasn’t been vaccinated against anything yet. Imagine I bring him to daycare to pick up my older son. And your kid, who you were too stupid to vaccinate is carry a disease my poor kid hasn’t had a Chance to get vaccinated against. Your kid, who again, you were too stupid to vaccinate, coughs on my innocent child and now my kid is sick. In that instance, you are a criminal. You should be locked up for life.

Can't say I'm surprised where this went. He literally wanted basic advice on how to not get sick and certain people took this off the rails.

Welp, sorry @iowamouse about your topic getting nuked. Please, let us know how your trip goes!

I think OP did get answers on the first couple of pages.
..And then a related discussion happened.

Doesn’t seem too harmful. I don’t know if 6 pages of people repeating ‘hand washing and sanitizer’ advice is needed ;)

Here’s a hypothetical scenario-

You don’t get your children vaccinated.
Your school aged child gets chicken pox.
Your child exposed another parent’s newborn to chickenpox.
Newborn now has chickenpox.

The newborn’s parents didn’t have a choice to vaccinate their child, you did.
If I have a child they will definitely not be attending any form of public school. Private tutors and they would be aware that my child is dangerously unvaccinated and they can choose to take the job or not as would any parents my child would interact with

So you are unaware that smallpox was eradicated because of the vaccine whose efficacy you deny? Or do you think the disease was just made up to sell a drug that no longer has a market? Most people looking to make a buck don’t destroy their own market.
There is no cure for small pox though. Is there absolute proof that small pox could not break out in a new strain immune to current vaccination?

Come on now. No socializing? No sports? No extracurricular activities?
I hope you’re joking, I think you must be joking.

It. has. been. eradicated.

Last naturally occurring case was diagnosed in October 1977 and the World Health Organization certified the global eradication of the disease in 1980.

Only remaining strains of the virus are in two research labs.

semi joking, but in all fairness, that goes both ways. If I do not vaccinate my child but another parents (vaccinated) child gets/has chicken pox and passes it on my to my child, did I have "choice"?

That parent would be as guilty as you since all 50 states require proof of chicken pox vaccination or immunity before entering childcare or school.

Hahahahahahah. Yes. Yes you did have a choice. You could have vaccinated your kid. Then he wouldn’t have gotten chicken pox. You’re only fooling around here, right?

If it makes you feel tough to repeatedly call me stupid you can keep doing it. I dont mind. You are afraid. You live in fear.

Mutations occur during replication of the virus in an infected person. There are 0 infected persons and thus no mutations spreading.

There's been discussions about destroying the two remain inventories of the virus due to fears of bioterrorism, since one of the labs is in Russia.

But if their child is vaccinated, what do they have to worry about it if my child is not? Shouldnt their child not get chicken pox since its been vaccinated?
