I thinnk it's cool they're trying this new tech out like this in front of a live crowd. I think far too much of this sort of stuff probably gets buried after being played with in a warehouse in Glendale.

That being said... This certainly feels like a "first gen" sort of thing.

As a good corporate citizen TWDC will gradually reduce their use of fireworks for entertainment purposes. As the drone shows improve upon their technology we'll see much more sophisticated displays. There will come a time when the drone shows will be able to replicate and improve upon current fireworks displays.
You keep going on about this IN EVERY RELATED THREAD.

When you can prove it, please do.

What's the weather limitations on the show? I can't fly my helicopter in a very strong breeze or I lose maneuvering control.

Super impressed. Need Intel for Rivers of Light if it's still having issues.

I am not entirely sure, but modern GPS connected drones are pretty stable even in fairly decent strength winds.

I have had mine up in 15-20 mph winds when taking pictures of a house I did the engineering for that was right on the beach. Granted, all I needed was stability and not choreographed movements, so the go/no-go parameters might be very different.

Here's a video of Intel's new flying drone it thinks will replace fireworks someday:

This is so freaking cool! I know nothing of drones, is there a person controlling each one of them? Or is it computer controlled? Where are all those people hiding if so?! Lol
This will help answer your questions:

This show is also having a lot of issues. A lot of it had been cut, and there are still issues getting it ready for daily operations. The start date and number of performances per day are still up in the air.

The only two things I could make out were a tree and a bird.

"I see a duckie and a horse!"

Like I said, when you can prove Disney will replace fireworks with drones please do.

Until then stop spamming with your personal fantasys. Thanks.
The technology is advancing rapidly. This has nothing to do with fantasy. If it was fantasy the US military wouldn't have such an extensive drone program. We're seeing the baby steps at this point of civilian use of drones

He's another video showing the practical capabilities of drones:
