"Starbright Holidays" Drone show coming to Disney Springs

The technology is advancing rapidly. This has nothing to do with fantasy. If it was fantasy the US military wouldn't have such an extensive drone program. We're seeing the baby steps at this point of civilian use of drones

He's another video showing the practical capabilities of drones:

We all know what drones can do. It's kind of common knowledge.

Come back when they can replicate Wishes shot for shot.

This show is quite cool and innovative. I'll have full thoughts when it officially premieres.

As a good corporate citizen TWDC will gradually reduce their use of fireworks for entertainment purposes. As the drone shows improve upon their technology we'll see much more sophisticated displays. There will come a time when the drone shows will be able to replicate and improve upon current fireworks displays.

Who knows how long into the future that'll be, but I eagerly await its coming.

If drones can make a show just as entertaining and magical, better for the environment, and more cost-effective for Disney than actual pyro, I see no reason for anyone to complain.

And, more importantly, I see nothing holding back this conversion from becoming reality one day, whether it's 50 years from now or 500. If you do disagree with Phil and I, at least explain why.

I would agree, but I am willing to give them a pass for now as not only is the technology rather new, so it the style of choreography.

It is not unlike what a new video game console comes out. The first games are not all that different than the previous system. After a few months the programmers learn where they can push and where they can't and the quality starts to ramp up.

Once they work with it for a while they will learn what works and what does not the quality will most likely increase.

Exactly my thinking. I'm positive that over time it will get better and better. As it is now, it's very impressive and I can't wait to check it out in December.

Still missing the point.....
This system is based upon Low-Cost UAV Swarming Technology (LOCUST) which was developed by the US Office of Naval Research. The important point is that this is a low cost system and we know that TWDC is all about saving money. This is going to save them a lot of money on fireworks. Plus there are storage, safety and security problems with fireworks that would be eliminated with drones.

The biggest factor is the noise, water air pollution caused by fireworks. Drones will eliminate those problems as well.

The new technology is cheaper, safer, and eliminates significant security and pollution problems. I feel confident TWDC will continue with this new technology.

Can't ever replace the wonder of fireworks. However I could see the tech making a significant contribution to shows allowing for fewer fireworks. But again, nothing can replace fireworks.

As a good corporate citizen
Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron? TWDC only cares about one thing. Making as much money as they can as fast as they can. I'm sure that means more drones and projections, less fireworks. However, that would be solely cost cutting with some 'look at us! we're so magically green!' message slapped on to it rather than actually going for green because it's good.

Looks great. Will be interesting to see if they incorporate anything like this out here at Disneyland as rumored.

Does anyone know if this will show tonight?

I waited and waited last night in the hopes of seeing it but I did not.

I saw a start date of the 20th floating around (probably here, I can't remember)

But if it may happen tonight I'd love to see it.

Seems unlikely. Sunday is possible, but not certain.

Seems more likely to me that this type of show would replace the night parades instead of replacing the fireworks. Fireworks are relatively cheap compared to the cost of running those parades. Lots of CM hours can be replaced with a person operating a computer guiding the drones.

Don't fireworks take thousands of dollars per showing?
