What a load of garbage.
AC's closing has nothing to do with stores closing in Disneys West Side.
It's the economy..no one is spending money...well except my wife.

Well, less people in Downtown Disney sure as heck didn't help the stores do any better.

Agreed the merch was way overpriced, but it was always a stop when visiting DTD. I usually buy something each time I visit Hoypoloi and I used to drop loads of cash at Virgin. I'll visit DTD again - if nothing else for Hoypoloi - but it's getting real close to being dead to me.

The only reason i visit the westside anymore is cos of the movie theater (which is understandable as its my local one.) I used to go in virgin and starbillias all the time. (Only spent money at virgin tho.)

I would love to see disney make the whole area into a theatre district, and maybe show one of the disney broadway shows here in FL. The dinner shows and la nouba both do well, so i can see a live theater venue pulling in the crowds as well. (it would also be nice if they opened a new adventures club and comedy club - but i don't think they are gonna make that wish ever happen. :()

I also think they should ditch disney quest, been in once and wasn't impressed (well except for the cheesecake factory, but thats gone now too...)

It was always a fun place to hang out whilst waiting for the Adventurers Club to open after a private event. All of my CP memories are dying slowly. AC...Virgin...Starbillias...what's next? Magic Shop?

From what I would like to see go (from most to least):

1. Celebrity Eyeworks Studios/Sunglass Icon
2. Mickey's Groove
3. Planet Hollywood On Location (or at least move it closer to the actual restaurant)
4. Magnetron
5. Magic Masters
6. Sosa Family Cigars
7. Disney's Candy Cauldron
8. Hoypoloi & Pop Gallery

And to refer to #3, at DHS, please do something else with that store as well. It just seems to randomly fit with no reason!

Groove isn't going anywhere, especially since it is considered the only general Disney store on West Side (besides DQ Emporium). I'd like to see it expanded if anything to have more room, and maybe an actual theme...

Oh, and about the whole ghetto and midtown thing, if anything those are reversed. PI right now is much more ghetto than West Side...

It is sad to see how much of a downturn DTD has taken. Mainly at PI and the West Side. DH and I spent so much time there on our first trip together and now I'm thinking about what will draw us down to the West Side without a place like Virgin. We would hang out in there while waiting for a movie or before going to dinner. We would also walk around Starabilia's and browse all of the interesting things we couldn't afford.

Our last visit to the World was in '07 and I'm really uncertain what's going to still be there when we take our next trip (maybe 2010?)

I will miss this one thing about that store.

When it first opened, (80's?, 90's?) they had a piece of "Gold Pressed Latinum"
from the Star Trek TV series there, for something like $675.00.

I was there last year, and it is/was still there.

The thing is, I have one of those . . an acquaintance had worked
in the prop shop for the show and had poured hundreds of those
for the show and to give away to friends. They're made of about
2 cents worth of plastic spray painted gold.

It's nice, I have it right here, anyone wanna give me $675.00 for it?

I will miss visiting it when I'm there next. Sorta. Kinda.

I have a hard time getting broken up about any sort of store closing.
Attractions, yes . . . but these are just stores. Shopping, big whoop.

I really think that stores like Starabilias are almost counting on customers not really knowing the actual worth of the merchandise.
I mean, sure, signatures from early presidents, Houdini, etc....that stuff is worth a fortune.
But Voldemort's wand? $19,000? Surely not. I think they must be counting on unknowledgable guests making impulse purchases based on emotion.
I saw a Potter poster signed by the three main stars in there for around $3500. Blew my mind. I have one signed by 22 people (cast, crew, Rowling, etc.) that I got for less than that.
Also, they are marking stuff way up for the presentation framing. Some of that frame work must be in the $500 range.

Real movie props are a really weird thing. They generally cost next to nothing to make but unless you know someone in the biz paying a super inflated price is typically the only way to get a hold of these items. It all comes down to how bad you want it. You know what they say..."A fool and his money are easily parted"

I agree. I remember how unusual it was for a prop, (perhaps among others thrown away at Hollywood) to be worth that much.
I reasoned the framing & artwork as well. Not to mention that some things were pretty cool.
Like the Abe Lincoln & Tad Portrait/Signature for I believe $24 grand.
Or the $1,000 books from authors like Harriet Beecher Stowe or Bill Clinton.
But as far I was concerned, it was more of an attraction than a shop.
