Crude concept art. I think I put it in the wrong place.

Yeah, it's over too far to the right and plopped on top of the Mexican restaurant instead of behind the railroad berm.

But if that's the scale from behind the berm, you also made it about 95 stories high and the tallest structure west of Chicago. Although it's the thought that counts. :)

pically "construction" refers to the whole process, not just the actual erecting of steel.

Actually it doesn't, but I understood what you meant. My point is that even if work begins next year it's still possible that the actual building of the SW area might not start until 2017.

Didn't Staggs say that this wasn't going to replace anything major and beloved? I find it hard to believe that it'll be touching ROA and TSI. Big Thunder Ranch is one thing... but not actual thematic attractions.

I expect it to go into the Ranch and perhaps north of the park or north of Critter Country.

Having two sci-fi lands in one park still doesn't make sense to me, but if they must...

It does seem redundant, doesn't it? It wouldn't bother me as much if they were physically linked somehow, like Frontierland, New Orleans Square, and Critter Country. All three tell a single cohesive story and take place in the American frontier of the 1800's, but aren't scattered across the park away from each other.

What annoys me is Disney's branding of the land. Meaning, it will have no basis in the existing films but rather future movies they are releasing. This doesn't seem to be a big deal for people or maybe they just don't find any of the environments from the previous films really enticing to recreate ala Wizarding World or Cars Land. I personally still want to see Tatooine with Mos Eisley, Jabba's Palace, a Sandcrawler and a big RSR-style canyon with an E ticket Skyhopper ride, and the Death Star in orbit housing another E ticket.

That's be a lot of dirt and stucco. Those environments are exciting for the characters and events that occur within them, not because of their own characteristics.

Its funny you say this , I just recently rewatched the first trilogy (it's been a solid 15 years) with the future SWL in mind and it really struck me how there were no planets / environments that I would really want to experience for myself except for the Cloud City but I'm not sure that could be implemented properly at a theme park. Jabbas palace would be cool to see though and I think they could pull that off really well. Maybe even make it a cool dinner / show type thing like the old Tahitian Terrace.

EDIT: Endor would be cool to see, forgot about that one. I was really excited for that speed bike coaster thru the trees / Ewoks Village.

Even though the characters are based on an existing franchise the one thing I do like about this project is that it will be a new realm created with a backstory specifically for Disneyland and WDW. It's been decades since we've seen this approach from Disney, at least in a stateside castle park.

Groundbreaking and site prep is not the same thing as construction. I have no clue what their timetable is, but there's a lot of work to be done before they can actually construct anything on the parcel of land in question.
exactly what I was trying to say.
They probably will remove the animals, remove all thematic stuff, details, props.. remove technical equipment..
then once the thing is clear.. its ready to teardown. After teardown is complete.. they can think of building.

See, I actually think it's smart they're building their own thing influenced by SW aesthetics and nothing else. It gives them a lot of freedom to be original and to not overtly clash with Disneyland's existing aesthetics, at least from afar.

I hope.

I also like that the land will be original and hopefully not clash with the rest of the park. But I still think there should be experiences from the existing films. That would be the perfect balance for me. Which I guess to an extent there will be ... ( Falcon attraction , Cantina) but with 14 acres id like to see a jabbas palace dinner/ show and Endor speed bike coaster. To me the Falcon attraction sounds like Star Tours the remix and the battle ride will be a combo of Grignotts and TSMM. I would like a nice new E ticket thrill ride for the park that really moves through physical sets in an awesome indoor / outdoor atmosphere. Like Tron in Shanghai or RSR. I wish they would of made the big thunder ranch area Endor and put the speed bike coaster there and then used the old back stage areas for everything else.

I sure hope it isn't a simulator ride, or anything like Harry Potter where they just careen you in front of screens and props.

Here's to hoping the rides are so cutting edge that we can't even name other attractions they can be compared to. It would be pretty disappointing for the Falcon attraction to be a slightly more advanced Star Tours. Speaking of which, do you think the Falcon will be a repurposed Star Tours, that they will just shut down Star Tours when the Falcon ride opens, or will they move Star Tours to SWL and have both the Falcon attraction and Star Tours in SWL?

That would be an awesome ride and I would love it so much if they included the Ewok village! I was obsessed with Ewoks when I was little and I wanted a pet Ewok so bad. I couldn't understand why my parents wouldn't get me one. Now I have a dog that looks remarkably like an Ewok so I am all good :)

The Endor moon is actually the least alien-looking environment from the classic films. For whatever reason, desert and snow worked. But when they did the Endor forest, it just looked and felt like they were in the California Redwoods. The L.L.Bean outfits didn't help. However, the moon was much more alien and fantastical in the classic Ewok TV movies that were once aired on the Disney Channel. So ironically, I feel like the Endor forest would actually be a better fit for Disneyland, somehow. It would be less jarring than this new alien world with big towering mountains and structures.
