Star Wars themed land announced for Disneyland

How come they don't use the projections in regular Space Mountain anymore? The only one you get is the galaxy at the beginning. There use to be a lot of stuff flying around.

That would be an awesome ride and I would love it so much if they included the Ewok village! I was obsessed with Ewoks when I was little and I wanted a pet Ewok so bad. I couldn't understand why my parents wouldn't get me one. Now I have a dog that looks remarkably like an Ewok so I am all good :)

Lol, there's just something about Ewoks that have always felt Disney... Even before Disney bought Lucasfilm

I love the Ewoks, too. Ewoks: The Battle for Endor is my favorite Star Wars movie and I used to have dreams as a child that Disneyland (which I had never visited) had a dark ride in Fantasyland based on that one.

I went and bought the Star Wars blu-ray set today at Best Buy, and watched Episode IV tonight.

I remember vividly the night I saw Star Wars in the summer of 1977; the big Cinerama theater in downtown Seattle, the three other people I was with, the giant mid-70's Cadillac we drove downtown in, the restaurant in the Westin Hotel we went to after we bought the tickets and had three hours to kill, how it was still light out when we stood on the sidewalk for the 10PM showing which is typical of Seattle in June. I also remember loving the movie, but it's funny how I remember so many other trivial details of that important evening rather than the movie itself.

My viewing of Star Wars tonight for the first time in decades held up pretty well. It's clearly a movie from the 1970's, but there's a charm to the physical sets and the characters. I plan on watching The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in the next few days, but I'm very glad that Disney bought LucasFilm.

I think this is going to be a very, very good development for Disneyland.

I'm hoping it would be around in Feb for my trip. Would they really have holidays and that overlapping (honest question)?

I can't imagine it not sticking around till at least March. And I wouldn't be surprised if they overlap with holidays to take advantage of the films release date.

@Lee posted in the DHS Star Wars thread confirming what I've heard about Star Wars Land's new placement, so I figured I'd bring the conversation here where it will be more on topic. While the plan was originally to take over Toontown and backstage areas, those plans have now shifted.

Fantasmic and the Rivers of America attractions will go down for 18 months (possibly longer for the attractions) starting as soon as January. The Disneyland Railroad's track will be rerouted to cut Tom Sawyer Island in half by going across the river from Critter Country. This would put the train tracks on a trajectory to run through where Big Thunder Ranch is now, eventually rejoining the original track somewhere in Fantasyland. That's not great news for Mickey and his magical map either.

This means that Star Wars Land will displace most of the Rivers of America and half of Tom Sawyer Island, as well as Big Thunder Ranch, the Fantasyland Theater and some backstage areas. Tragic.

I find the plan appalling. Toontown is much more expendable than the Rivers of America, and I can't imagine Disneyland fans will feel much different. I'm a big fan of Star Wars Land - it looks amazing and sounds phenomenal - but the placement is all kinds of wrong. I hope there is still time for Disney to change their minds on this.

Huh. That sounds ridiculously over-complicated and I'm not quite sure how the Mark Twain or Columbia would continue to operate in this scenario with a stretch of train track running across the river. How weird... I hope it's just a crazy rumor.

I'm assuming that the Twain/Columbia would have to just go in a small loop as they wouldn't be able to go under the train tracks. Talk about neutering.

Also - this is not a crazy rumor. This is the current plan.

Well it's still crazy... ha! Just don't understand why they'd choose to alter so much of the park's foundation when they could easily rip into Toontown instead. I can't imagine altering the train track -- and over water no less -- is a very cost-effective or fan-pleasing move.

I think it's absolutely nuts and I would love to know which executives thought it was a better solution and why.

This sounds Terrible. I can't understand what Disney is thinking with this. Over on the East side of the park there is an ugly land that is falling apart that already has Star Wars IP in it. Why woudnt they want to kill two birds with one stone? Demo Autopia/ Innoventions/ Subs/ pizza port (keep lagoon somehow?) Then give a facelift to the rest of the land , replace BLAB and figure out what to do with the people mover track. Is it that Disney doesn't want to get rid of one of their most popular IPs ,Nemo? Or did their plans get too ambitious for the space I mentioned above? I have a hard time believing they finally have some grand plans for Tomorrowland that involve bringing it back to its former glory.

It must be park capacity then. Getting rid of 3 attractions and adding two E tickets would be a net loss of 1. And adding SWL to an existing land wouldn't create more capacity as a new land would obviously. Just don't know why they need to carve so much of ROI/ TSI.

Anyway it's not so much that I will miss the back half of TSI or Mickey and the magical map. What I don't like is the DLRR getting shortened. I'm also wondering how the SWL sight lines will impact the ROA and the atmosphere it created for the West Side of the park. Why would they need to cut into ROA / TSI so much? Didn't they clear like 12 acres of backstage area?

I'm having a tough time visualizing this. So somewhere after the Train goes thru Splash Mountain it will cross the river at some point past hungry bear I'm assuming. And it will go over the water on some bridge? How tall would this bridge have to be for the Mark twain / Columbia to go under it. So this doesn't sound right to me.

I was assuming the river would start to turn somewhere past critter country and wrap around the front half of TSI. Meaning the river would be substantially cut and the DLRR Would still be traveling on land albeit new land where the back half of TSI and ROA are currently.
