Then you haven't watched TFA lately. Sorry man, some stuff ("I liked this, I didn't like that") is opinion, but TLJ explicitly contradicts TFA in so many ways. You can like that it did, but denying it does just makes little sense.
I watched TFA immediately before watching TLJ the first time. I think the two movies work great together. I have yet to hear any convincing reason why they don't.

I thought it was to make up for Chewie not getting a medal at the end of A New Hope. Wookie prejudice and discrimination runs deep in that galaxy.
Ha! I forgot about that explanation, and it actually does make some sense in a dark kind of way. But but but Chewie took care of Leia while Han was frozen in carbonite... I thought she accepted Chewie.:cry::cry:;)

All we know about Rey’s parents at this point is that they were nobodies...from a certain point of view. And we all know how that “certain point of view” thing can turn out from one movie to the next. How this ends up is 100% still wide open and up to JJ and his team (and RJ has stated this). So who her parents are could still go either way. But for me personally, I think there is huge significance in them being no one, if that turns out to be true, as that would add to the idea that anyone in the galaxy can be called and used by the Force in significant ways. I hope this is how it turns out. That way, you don’t have to be a Skywalker or famous or have Force sensitive parents to have a large role to play in the fate of the galaxy or to be Force sensitive yourself and manifest Force abilities. Anyone can have an important role. Imo, that is a much more interesting story.

I would be pretty surprised if the Rey's parentage reveal turns out to be a lie. Especially since it is Rey herself who actually says they are "nobody". And I think that makes her a far more intriguing character (and makes SW as a whole more interesting) but letting her develop somewhat unburdened by being a Skywalker heir.

As for those who say that the filmmakers promoted some sort of big build up in terms of Rey's lineage that they then tossed aside, I don't agree. This isn't from me (I'm quoting from another site), but sums up what I got out of TFA regarding Rey's parents:

They didn’t play up any mysteries. Maz all but told Rey in TFA: “Whoever you’re waiting for on Jakku, they’re never coming back.” And then told her that Luke was someone who still could. Which all but told everyone that she wasn’t related to Luke.

And then she told her that the belonging she sought wasn’t behind her, it was ahead of her. She was telling her to let go of her past and embrace her future.

The lightsaber called to her because she was strong with the Force. That’s all it was.

That scene basically spelled it out for everyone. Fans who needed it to be something more are basically no different than Rey, desperate to believe that her parents couldn’t have been just a couple of drunks who dumped her like trash. They need to let go of something that was just never there.

You looking to date me or something? lol! Sorry, but I’m not interested.

No...I'm trying to figure out why you dismissed anyone who doesn't tow the critic line and "love" this as disgruntled fanboy...

...but have now portrayed yourself pretty clearly as a low expectation kinda fanboy...

You loved it? It was as good as empire? You see no continuity problems between the 7 and the 8?

Even the critics didn't go that far...

It's just all we can expect huh?

Oh, and while making sure I got the script line right, I found this. For anyone who really believes that "fans made up" the significance of Rey's parents:

JJ Abrhams: "We're going to make sure that the answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying. Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of TFA, but in the entire galaxy. She deserves it. We'll make sure that the answer is something that feels like it happened a long time ago, far away, and we're just telling you what happened."

But yeah...entirely fan created.

That quote is from Colin Trevorrow, you know the guy who is no longer directing anything in this trilogy.

I’m starting to wonder if I’m in the Twilight Zone or the Upside Down. What is happening in here MisterPenguin? :cautious:

You're not portraying yourself to be either really knowledgeable or a particularly good judge of Star Wars here today. I'll concede it might be an off day for you...

You went places with AEfx were you were clearly overmatched...most notably about the Hollywood production/editing process and the history of Star Wars...

I agree. I just hope JJ doesn’t change things up to try and appease fans that don’t like the way it was left in TLJ.

Wow. Still got in that ad hominem even if @bclane didn't fall into your Thor trap.

Remarkable.

I never dismissed anyone for not liking it. I have always said everyone is free to have their opinion and that all opinions are equal. You are thinking of someone else...perhaps you are mistaking me for yourself since you are the one that dismisses people who don’t agree with you

I never said it was as good as Empire either. I have always maintained that Empire is my favorite movie of all time. You clearly don’t read my posts very clearly.
