....and....is the "butts in seats" score in there somewhere?

Yesterday and today are big days as far as the overall picture...I'm watching...

You're changing the argument.

The proposition is: People generally don't like it. People are divided. And the proof is the RT score and angry vlogs.

Real proof is that the RT number is an outlier and almost definitely wrong. Only about 20% of those who've seen it don't like.

You ignore that point and now want to argue about how many show up and how much it makes. That's a different argument.

You just can't stop with this...keep posting charts and let's see if money translates. Disney cares not about anything else...I'm guessing you should know this by now.

I've said "let's see" 55 times... perhaps 65 will be the charm?

Son just convinced me to go with him to see again @ 4pm. Fortunately, 75% of the seats are unsold so we're buying tickets there.

I'm going in with an open mind.

Went to see ragnarok and peaked into two showings...they were maybe 30% full. Shopping would cut into that...but I still think the "best movie since empire" would get more play 8 days after release. Guess it's just me and a handful of internet trolls who are giving it a bad name that's dragging down the gate?

Theater was about 50% full.

Second time viewing was much better for me and I'm glad I went. Because I knew beforehand all the things that would tick me off, I think I was able to dismiss them much quicker. There is a very good movie inside the 2 1/2 hours of run time, I will admit. The Snoke kill scene is still my favorite. The running out of fuel plot line was still dumb, as was the side trip to Casino planet but I accepted them at face value. I decided to refill the popcorn during the Luke milking alien teet scene which was a good move for my overall attitude.

Went with my son and 3 of his friends - all around 21. They all loved it, likely because they don't have the hangups fans of the OT have. We have so much love and respect for those films and the characters that we take it very personally when you feel someone like Rian Johnson disrespect them and mess with the overall mythology. I am not ready to "kill the past" and I will never be. Last night I watched A New Hope(I hate saying that)/Star Wars from start to finish and still loved it. I know it will always be there and will always take me back to the first time I saw it as a 10 year old with mouth open and eyes wide. I think I am ready however to now move forward with these new adventures and characters. It's never easy admitting when you are wrong - and I don't feel I was totally wrong - but the movie is better than originally perceived.

I also think I needed that "hate" from the first viewing to allow me to see it from a different perspective the second time.

Also - Movie is much, much better in "2D" vs. 3d.

OK - fire away.

I’m glad for you!
May I ask why it was better without 3D?

I think I said this a while ago in the thread, but this really seems to be a trend that this movie needs a second viewing. I’ve heard virtually nobody that dislikes it more the second time, which is a very weird thing for a movie.

You kept an open mind, that deserves respect!

Is it?
I would imagine that "people who have seen X movie twice" is a very self-selecting group.
Why would someone who disliked a movie willingly sit through it again a second time?

In 3D you are distracted by the motions and 3D effects - you also lose image quality in the form of more muted colors and less dynamic range. The cinematography really stood out more in 2D.
I completely agree. I would actually pay more for 2D as it is almost always better. The exception is something like Avatar but for that movie every frame was planned and shot with 3D in mind. Almost all other movies are converted to 3D and that just does not work as well for me. I pretty much only watch movies in Dolby Cinema now as that is actually worth the extra money imo.

Thanks. I’ll be seeing it again next week at a dine in.

We watched Coco in a Dolby theater. It was great.

For a long-time Star Wars fan like yourself - this is great to hear and I'm happy for you! And props to you for going in with an open mind -- I'm glad it paid off:)

Here's a question: did you ever in your wildest dreams think you'd have to make so many mental concessions going into a Star Wars movie?

...it's not new...been going on for 18 years...but it's just so surreal to me.

Box Office Update: Fans Speak with Closed Wallets as “The Last Jedi” Now $175 Mil Behind “Force Awakens”

In just 10 days, “The Last Jedi” has brought in $365 million domestically. This is a huge amount of money. It sets some records no doubt.

But “The Force Awakens” took in $540 million in its first 10 days, two years ago. That’s almost $175 million difference. And that’s BIG.

Everyone has a theory. Schools weren’t completely out for Christmas. The wind was coming from the north. Odd days vs. even days.

But now that two weekends have passed, we can state the obvious: they killed off Luke Skywalker. I mean, come on. Happy, peppy Luke became a wizened old man on a mountain with no family, no love, no connections, no friends, no faith. Both he and Han Solo were essentially knocked off by Han and Leia’s son. I mean, ? None of it makes sense. It’s a bitter pill to swallow. Plus, Rey isn’t related to anyone, and Kylo mocks her for it. It’s a drag.

Now Mark Hamill is speaking out, saying he took direction from Rian Johnson but knew it was all wrong. He says. maybe it’s a cousin “Jake Skywalker” but certainly not the Luke he knew.

George Lucas must be furious. In two movies they killed off two of his three main characters. And who could have foreseen Carrie Fisher’s real life death? So now Leia will expire in Episode IX. Her son– and Han’s– is irredeemably evil. So that’s it.
