Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Today was a double win for rise. I didn't notice a whole lot of down time. More importantly.....

To my total shock everything was working except for the Star Destroyer's cannons did not recoil (which I think we've settled on that will never happen again).

It have been a long time since I've seen Kylo Ren post cannons and even the decompression wind effect was working.

The final Kylo AA has had improved reliability in the past year. If it goes to B-mode, it's usually back to A-mode the following day (which probably means it requires a reset at the end of the day by maintenance and can't be done mid-day).

The one effect that seems to be in a regularly broken state is the AT-AT cannon guns on Track A.

Regardless, the ride needs to go down for a refurbishment. If the rumors are true, WDI has a fix for the cannons and needs time to test and implement it, which cannot be done overnight on 3rd shift.

I don't see ROTR going down anytime soon for a referb... The ILL money on that is insane. Sells out most days for ~$20 a person. If it gets ~1,500 per hour through the ride with 70% being ILL. You are looking at $21,000 per hour or about $250,000 a day in revenue.

Every week its down costs Disney ~$1.7 million

A-mode (all 3 cannons moving) was last seen around December 2020.
A-mode Lite (just first cannon moving) was last seen January 2022.
Wow. I had no idea it had been broken for so long. I thought I got one cannon last year but I guess not. The cannons were one of my favorite parts of the ride. I can’t believe they’ve let it go 3.5 years without fixing it.

Do you know if all the stuff that's broken at WDW is also broken in Disneyland? If I ride it there will it be more like when it opened?
I think the AT-AT cannon guns are more reliable there.

As for the final Kylo AA, it just depends. Earlier in the day the better because once the ride goes down (and it goes to B-mode), it'll stay like that for the rest of the day.

Thank you! I got the front view for the first time in I don’t even know how long. It was a bummer to discover the guns didn’t move. I miss the big moving cannons the most so I’m hoping to experience those at least.

We rode 4 times at Disneyland last week (all using standby), and everything was working, except the Cannons of course. Darn, I really wish I got to see those in action.

The most incredible ride I have ridden.

And yes, it breaks down a lot. We couldn't get on at all Wednesday, got on Thursday after we caught it coming back online. But Friday and Saturday it had good days, and was up almost the entire day.

Thank you for the info. It’s disappointing to hear the cannons don’t operate at Disneyland either.

We were fortunate enough to ride it a week or so after it opened. We had no prior knowledge of the ride. We were blown away. No other ride has ever come close for us. I hope they get it back to 100% someday.

Yep, IF (a pretty big IF, indeed) all of the show elements and timing/intervals are working as designed, I don't think there is a better complete attraction experience offered by Disney, at least domestically. And by "experience," I mean from the first room with Rey through to the end. Last time I rode it (in '21) only the first cannon was moving; would be great if WDI could figure out how to fix that entire section.

Even without them, it's wonderful. But it would really make that scene soar.

My understanding is that they know how to fix it, it's a matter of getting the time and the budget.

The other random "fix" that I was told was an extension of the seatbelt height to hopefully facilitate quicker load/unload.

Hmmm. How would that work. Come in when sorting into cells? No way it would make any sense at the pre-show/transport ship.
They kinda already do this sometimes.

They do the GOTG: CR sorting by putting odds and evens into their own separate lane. Then they call for any single riders as you get closer to the front when they put you into two separate lines before color assignments.

Also wondering how a dedicated single rider line would also work for the preshows.

Not saying that Disney would/should follow Suite, but at Universal there is more or less the expectation that all single rider lanes would skip all preshows. Not sure if there is a good/established pathway though that bypass all the preshow areas...

I just don’t think it’s acceptable for an attraction that is so reliant on the show aspects to skip the pre-shows. Granted that I’ve been on Rise 50+ I wouldn’t mind skipping the Pre-Show(s).
